Newcastle United already have their first transfer of 2025 lined up, with Vakhtang Salia set to join the club.
The Magpies have agreed a deal to sign Vakhtang Salia from Dinamo Tbilisi, with the 17-year-old set to head to Tyneside next summer once he turns 18.
Newcastle United confirmed the deal on Tuesday, with Paul Mitchell stating that other top clubs were interested in Salia.
Luckily for Mitchell, he was able to strike a deal for the Georgian teenager, as the Newcastle sporting director sets about changing the club’s recruitment strategy.

Newcastle already have a plan for Vakhtang Salia
Salia is an exciting prospect, and the hope will be that he achieves his potential at St James’ Park.
Newcastle United have invested in the forward’s future, and there is already a plan in place for what will happen when he arrives on Tyneside in 2025.
According to iNews, Newcastle are going to send Salia out on loan when he officially joins the club from Dinamo Tbilisi.
They add that Newcastle will look to send Salia to a club in a top European league where he will get regular first-team minutes.
Newcastle will hope to repeat Yankuba Minteh trick
While Mitchell is trying to change Newcastle’s recruitment strategy, this is exactly what they did with Yankuba Minteh – who was signed by Dan Ashworth.
As soon as he arrived in the summer of 2023, he was loaned out to Feyenoord. The fact that he joined the Rotterdam club was an immediate indication of his talent, as they were competing in the Champions League just like Newcastle.
Minteh enjoyed a sensational loan spell with Feyenoord, as he blossomed into one of European football’s most exciting prospects.
That was to Newcastle’s gain, but not in the way they were hoping. The Magpies used Minteh to solve their PSR pickle, with the Gambian winger joining Brighton for £33million.
Newcastle made a huge profit on someone who had never played for the club, which represented great business. However, it was sad to lose such an exciting prospect, in a position where Eddie Howe is crying out for more quality.
But that is the blueprint for what Newcastle will look to achieve with Salia. The hope will be that his loan spell goes so well that he is first-team ready for the Magpies or good enough to sell for a sizeable profit.
