Newcastle United on alert after Joao Pedro statement as PIF decide to take action

Joao Pedro is a leading Newcastle United transfer target this summer.

Geordie Boot Boys understands that Pedro is unsettled at Brighton amid links with a move to Newcastle United, who almost signed the player from Watford in 2022.

Still, the Seagulls are in a strong negotiating position. The 23-year-old still has three years to run on his contract, so Brighton do not need to sell cheaply.

Chelsea are also interested in Pedro, while Arsenal and Liverpool have previously been linked.

Brighton teammate Igor Julio recently revealed Pedro would prefer a move to London instead of Newcastle, although how accurate that really is remains to be seen.

Newcastle, for their part, are preparing for action.

Newcastle United make Joao Pedro decision after London claim

According to The Northern Echo, Newcastle will work to find out Pedro’s intentions.

They want clarity over his thought process before making a move, with Julio also revealing Pedro had asked to leave Brighton.

Eddie Howe is a huge fan of the player, who can operate in a number of different attacking positions.

Should they get any indication he would be open to the move, perhaps Newcastle will start talks with Brighton.

Why Newcastle United still have Joao Pedro hope after transfer bombshell

Just because a move to London would appeal to him, it doesn’t necessarily mean that Newcastle are out of the running entirely.

Indeed, they perhaps have some secret weapons in the squad who could swing the race for Pedro back into their favour.

In 2022, it was claimed that Pedro wants to play alongside Bruno Guimaraes and Joelinton at Newcastle

Both Brazilians remain key players under Howe and do not appear to be going anywhere this summer.

With that in mind, hopefully the fact they are loving life on Tyneside helps convince Pedro about a move to St James’ Park

Pedro was upset he didn’t sign for Newcastle once before. In 2023, he told Globo Esporte: “I had this negotiation with Newcastle, until months ago I was upset about not leaving.

“However, I said: now is my moment at Watford, I have to make it happen, since it didn’t happen, this time it will happen.”

Hopefully, that wrong can be put right this summer.
