Newcastle United are accelerating their attempts to finally sign Joao Pedro this summer, but supporters are angry about a recent development.
Pedro is unsettled at Brighton and Newcastle United have taken note.
Newcastle have made an enquiry to sign Pedro, although it remains to be seen how the south coast club react.
Geordie Boot Boys understands that Brighton are demanding around £70million for the 23-year-old this summer. Paying that would see Newcastle break their transfer record.
Still, as is seemingly always the case, the path to sign him won’t be easy. According to Craig Hope, Chelsea are also interested.
That news did not go down well on social media.

Newcastle United fans react as Chelsea look to hijack Joao Pedro move
Liam Delap chose to sign for Chelsea instead of Newcastle, so the idea of the Brazilian doing something similar is hardly welcome on Tyneside.
There’s no suggestion he will do that of course, but the Blues have previous when it comes to signing Newcastle targets.
On social media platform X, fans were unhappy about the development.
“I know it’s been said but it’s just customary now to end any transfer rumours with ‘Chelsea also interested’,” added another fan.
One supporter joked: “Every time we got to enquire about a player, Chelsea lurking in the background.”
“Can Chelsea please send a list of players that they are NOT interested in. It would save everyone loads of time and effort,” was another funny comment.
Joao Pedro won’t get what he wants if he snubs Newcastle United for Chelsea
Clearly, he’s still a Brighton player and there’s no absolute guarantee he won’t be by the next time season rolls around.
The Seagulls have proven themselves to be tough negotiators, so any interested party is unlikely to have it easy.
Still, if he does leave, Chelsea looks to be the wrong move.
Pedro wants first-team football at his next club, which feels a lot more likely at Newcastle. Granted Alexander Isak is destined to start up front for the Magpies when fully fit, but Pedro can play in a number of positions across the frontline.
Chelsea, meanwhile, have so many other players in the squad, starting with Delap. Their squad is much deeper, making competition for places even harder.
