Newcastle United have been offered some fresh hope in their pursuit of Joao Pedro, despite the fact his Brighton teammate claimed the Brazilian would prefer a move to London.

Pedro has been linked with Newcastle United for years now, with the club trying to sign him before eventually moving for Alexander Isak in 2022.

Geordie Boot Boys understands that Newcastle transfer target Pedro is unsettled at Brighton, amid claims from The Daily Telegraph that the club are ready to step up their plans to sign him.

Still, the Brazilian’s teammate recently hit headlines with claims about Pedro’s future. Luke Edwards, however, has provided some fresh insight.

Joao Pedro could still join Newcastle United this summer

Reacting to suggestions from Brighton defender Igor Julio that Pedro would prefer a move to London, Edwards took to social media platform X.

He revealed that despite the fact Pedro is open to joining a team in the English capital, it doesn’t mean a move to Newcastle is suddenly off the cards altogether.

It still depends on whether a team from London actually come in and make a move this summer.

What Igor Julio said about Joao Pedro

The defender spoke to Trivela earlier this week.

During his discussion, he confirmed that Pedro had told Brighton he wanted to leave the club this summer.

However, Julio said he would advise his teammate to join Liverpool in that case, even despite the fact the striker told him he would like to move to London.

“I told him that he has to think about what he wants from his career. In my opinion, if I were going to a Big Six team, I would go to a team that competes in the Premier League, plays in the Champions League and is always in a position to win,” he said.

“I would go to a Liverpool team and I think he would fit in perfectly at Liverpool. It’s because I’ve always dreamed of playing for Liverpool and I would go there.

“He always told me that he really wants to live in London, so I think he will prioritise what comes from there first.”

Chelsea and Newcastle are both interested in Pedro, though it remains to be seen if the Blues firm up their interest in the forward.

Unlike Newcastle, they already have a squad full of talent in attacking areas, so perhaps they will focus on other targets when the transfer window opens again next week.
