Newcastle United have found a new defensive target who would be an upgrade on wantaway Kieran Trippier.

Heading into the summer window, improving the defence was a top priority for Newcastle United.

However, after missing out on Marc Guehi, Lloyd Kelly was the only signing that bolstered Newcastle’s back line.

There could have been further changes at the back after Kieran Trippier asked to leave Newcastle over the summer, but the 33-year-old has stayed put at St James’ Park despite interest from Everton.

Trippier still wants to leave Newcastle but with most of the transfer windows shut across Europe, he only has a few options remaining – one of which is a move to Turkey.

There is still a chance that Trippier could make a late move to Turkey, and Newcastle have already identified a suitable replacement.

Newcastle ready £19m Denzel Dumfries bid

Tino Livramento has done a superb job at right-back early on this season, but if Kieran Trippier departed then it would become another position that is lacking quality depth.

Ultimately, a new right-back would be needed either in January or next summer, and reports suggest Newcastle are already lining up a bid.

According to Italian outlet InterLive, Denzel Dumfries is ready to bid farewell to Inter Milan and Newcastle United are showing the most interest out of English clubs.

The report adds that Newcastle are ready to make a significant offer of 22million Euros (£19m) to bring Dumfries to Tyneside.

Newcastle are said to be in ‘pole position’ to get a deal over the line for Dumfries in 2025. The Magpies were linked with a move for Dumfries this summer but it seems it may take an extra year before he makes the switch.

It is blindingly clear that Trippier no longer wants to be at Newcastle after asking twice to leave this summer.

It is now up to the club to source a good replacement and in Dumfries they have found a big upgrade.

At 28, Dumfries is now in the peak of his career and he has shown for Inter and the Netherlands that he is superb going forward and equally impressive when defending.

There has been a lot of criticism about Paul Mitchell’s role as sporting director at Newcastle but a £19m deal for Dumfries would be a step in the right direction.
