Newcastle United have looked likely to lose Kieran Trippier all summer.
The 33-year-old has been linked with a move away from St James’ Park since the end of last season, and it was even reported that Kieran Trippier would probably leave Newcastle.
That became even more likely after it recently emerged that Trippier had asked to leave Newcastle before the transfer window closes, despite Eddie Howe wanting to keep him at St James’ Park.
Trippier is a pivotal player on Tyneside, both on and off the pitch. He is a real leader, and has been one of Howe’s trusted lieutenants since his arrival in January 2022.
Newcastle on track to retain Kieran Trippier
But despite Trippier wanting to leave, it looks like Eddie Howe could get his wish.

That is according to iNews, who report that Newcastle United are confident about keeping Kieran Trippier at the club on transfer deadline day.
He is now on course to remain at St James’ Park, which is a huge boost for Howe.
Losing Trippier would have been a real blow. He is still an excellent player, while his influence in the dressing room cannot be understated.
Trippier must force his way back into the Newcastle team
With Trippier set to stay in the North East, his next goal will be to force his way back into the Newcastle United starting XI.
Howe has started Tino Livramento at right-back in the Magpies’ opening two Premier League games, with Trippier providing backup on the bench.
But the veteran defender did well as a substitute in the draw with Bournemouth, and subsequently started the Carabao Cup triumph over Nottingham Forest.
If Trippier really is staying, he will be eager to get back in Howe’s side ahead of Livramento. All he has to focus on is his domestic career, after it was announced on Thursday that Trippier has retired from international football.
Alex Murphy also on course to stay at Newcaste
iNews also state that Newcastle have rejected interest from Oxford United and Portsmouth in Alex Murphy.
Like Trippier, the Irish defender also looks set to remain at St James’ Park, despite previously being destined for a loan move away from the club.
A temporary exit would have been ideal for Murphy, as he could really benefit from more senior football. However, it looks like he is going to continue his development at Newcastle United, at a time when the club have failed to bring in another centre-back.
Had Marc Guehi arrived, perhaps Murphy would have been allowed to leave on loan. However, the deal for the Crystal Palace defender is now off.
