Newcastle United looked almost certain to lose Kieran Trippier this summer.

Throughout the entire transfer window, it was rumoured that the 33-year-old could leave potentially St James’ Park. It was even reported that Newcastle probably would sell Kieran Trippier, with talk of interest from Saudi Arabia.

Then a move away suddenly became even more likely, with Trippier requesting to leave Newcastle before the transfer window closed.

Eddie Howe made it clear that he wanted to keep Trippier, and the Premier League’s transfer window slammed shut with the right-back still part of the Magpies’ squad.

Kieran Trippier still wants to leave

With most of Europe’s major transfer windows now closed, that should have shut down talk of Trippier departing.

However, Geordie Boot Boys have been told that Trippier has reiterated his desire to leave Newcastle United.

The former England international is the subject of interest from multiple clubs in Turkey, where the transfer window is still open. That could give Trippier a route out of Newcastle, with the veteran defender eager to find a new club.

What Newcastle are going to do with Trippier

However, Trippier is not going to get his wish – for now, at least.

According to the Daily Mail, the earliest that Kieran Trippier will be allowed to leave Newcastle United is January.

They report that Eddie Howe will not let anyone go without being able to replace them.

Therefore, Trippier’s move to Turkey is off, and he is going to remain on Tyneside for the rest of the year.

Trippier must wait until January to sort out his future

While it might be harsh to keep a player at a club against his will, Newcastle United need to do what is right for them.

Losing Trippier right now would mean Eddie Howe has even fewer defensive options. He has already been stretched this season, with Emil Krafth having to come in and cover Fabian Schar at centre-back.

Had Newcastle got the Guehi deal done, perhaps the Magpies would have been more accommodating with Trippier. But that transfer fell through, with Newcastle unwilling to meet Crystal Palace’s £75million asking price.

That means Trippier must stay at Newcastle until January. Once January arrives, both parties can readdress the situation. By then, Trippier might be back in the starting XI and decide to stay at St James’ Park. Or he may still want to go, and there will be an opportunity for the club to bring in a replacement.
