Newcastle United will look to sign a winger in the summer transfer window.

For the rest of the season, Newcastle United must cope with one natural right-winger and several makeshift options after Miguel Almiron rejoined Atlanta United in January.

The move, driven by PSR was made so the Magpies are in a better position to spend in the summer.

Newcastle identified PSV Eindhoven’s Johan Bakayoko as a potential transfer target. A move in January was not possible, but Newcastle will try and sign Bakayoko in the summer.

The 21-year-old has enjoyed a great season in all competitions, scoring 10 goals and bagging three assists including a goal against Premier League leaders Liverpool in the Champions League.

Despite all the interest in January, Bakayoko’s agent ruled out the Newcastle move and confirmed he will stay at the club until the end of the season.

With his transfer saga heating up, Bakayoko has made a huge decision about his future that could prove to be huge for Newcastle.

Newcastle are not the only club looking to sign Bakayoko in the summer. Liverpool want to sign Bakayoko who could cost around £40m. The 21-year-old has a year left on his contract, but Bakayoko rejected PSV’s recent contract offer in favour of a move away in the summer.

Now, according to CaughtOffside, Bakayoko has his heart set on a move to England in the summer – a massive boost to Newcastle’s hopes of signing him.

The report also states that both Liverpool and Arsenal are among possible suitors for Bakayoko, but Bundesliga sides Borussia Dortmund and RB Leipzig are also big admirers of the Belgium international.

Liverpool are looking to sign a successor to Mohamed Salah and believe Bakayoko could be the player that gives them the best hope of replacing him. The Reds signed Newcastle target Federico Chiesa in the summer but the move does not look like it has been a successful one.

Bakayoko was been compared to Allan Saint-Maximin, but the Belgian is believed to have ‘more end product’ than the former Newcastle man.

Johan Bakayoko’s stats compared to Jacob Murphy at Newcastle

Like Bakayoko, Murphy has enjoyed a fantastic season. The 29-year-old has already surpassed his best attacking return in the Premier League and was a big part of Newcastle reaching the Carabao Cup final.

This season, most of his goal involvements have come from assists – Murphy has bagged eight league assists so far this season, the most he has ever achieved for the Magpies.

Murphy must continue his purple patch and avoid injury until the end of the season. He is Eddie Howe’s only natural right-wing option after Almiron left Newcastle.

At 29, it may be Murphy’s last chance to impress before Paul Mitchell signs a new winger, he has done an excellent job of proving himself so far this campaign.
