Miguel Almiron has scored his first goal since leaving Newcastle United for Atlanta United.

Newcastle United sold Miguel Almiron during the January transfer window, with the attacker returning to the MLS.

The Magpies bought Miguel Almiron from Atlanta United, and now the Paraguay international is back at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium.

They are preparing for the new MLS season, which kicks off later this month. Atlanta United’s first game is at home to CF Montreal.

Miguel Almiron scores his first goal since leaving Newcastle United

Ahead of that game, Atlanta United have been taking part in pre-season friendlies. Almiron impressed on his first appearance, with the 31-year-old playing over an hour against New England Revolution over the weekend.

Now Atlanta United have faced FC Cincinnati, as they continue their preparations.

Almiron started on the bench, but came on to score a penalty. It is his first goal back at Atlanta United, with his side drawing 2-2. It was a smart penalty from Almiron, who could not have put his effort more in the bottom corner if he tried.

There was a Newcastle United reunion after the game. Almiron was videoed in conversation with DeAndre Yedlin, who plays for FC Cincinnati.

The duo played together at Newcastle United for two years, but will now be rivals in the MLS.

One more former Newcastle United player is in the MLS

Almiron and Yedlin are not the only former Newcastle United players who are now plying their trade in the MLS.

Matty Longstaff plays for Toronto FC, having signed a two-year deal with the Canadian club in February 2024.

They are his first club since the end of Longstaff’s Newcastle United career, and he has really found his feet after recovering from a serious knee injury.

He is loving his football again in the MLS, and will soon be competing against former Toon teammate Almiron.
