Newcastle United are probably not going to sign a winger before the transfer window closes, but Liverpool are.
The Magpies have been looking to sign a right winger all summer, with Eddie Howe eager to bring in an upgrade on Miguel Almiron and Jacob Murphy.
The aim has been to take Newcastle United to the next level, with the likes of Michael Olise and Jarrod Bowen linked with moves to St James’ Park.
However, deals for either player were not attainable, and now it looks like an attacker will not join the club. A centre-back and a winger was the priority, but Eddie Howe has now admitted that both will probably not be possible.
That is a massive shame, and there will be even more frustration on Tyneside given what Liverpool are about to do.
Liverpool close in on Federico Chiesa transfer
While Newcastle United seemingly stand still in the transfer market, Liverpool are making a late move.

According to BBC Sport, Liverpool are hoping to agree a deal with Juventus to sign Federico Chiesa for £10.9million.
They report that an agreement is close, with the Italian attacker on course to become Arne Slot’s first signing as Liverpool manager.
Given the fee and the rumours of Chiesa moving to Newcastle, Toon fans will be devastated to see him head to Anfield. However, it is a deal that may actually benefit the Magpies.
No need for Anthony Gordon if Chiesa arrives at Liverpool
Throughout the summer, the winger that Liverpool have been linked the most with is Anthony Gordon.
The 23-year-old almost joined the Reds earlier this summer, with Newcastle offering Gordon to Liverpool as they desperately tried to comply with PSR.
Fortunately for Newcastle, Toon officials found another way to avoid a points deduction, with Elliot Anderson and Yankuba Minteh leaving the club for big money.
However, there have since been fears that Gordon’s head has been turned by Liverpool. He is from Merseyside and supported Liverpool growing up, so it is not a major surprise that the move was appealing.
But the move collapsed, and Liverpool never reignited their interest in Gordon. Instead, they are signing a different winger in Chiesa.
If Toon fans were not confident about Gordon staying before then they should be now.
Newcastle fans will be looking for more from Gordon
Amid speculation over his future, Gordon has started both of Newcastle United’s Premier League games so far.
He has been nowhere near his best, but did score an important equaliser against Bournemouth.
That will hopefully fill him with confidence, as he has not looked himself since the 2024/25 season kicked off.
