Miguel Almiron’s move from Newcastle United to Charlotte FC has collapsed.
The Magpies had been in talks to sell the winger, with Charlotte FC interested in signing Miguel Almiron.
The MLS side were keen to bring the 30-year-old back to the USA, with Almiron enjoying a very impressive spell at Atlanta United before his move to Tyneside.
However, there were fears that Newcastle wanted too much for Almiron, and those fears have been realised.
It has been reported that Almiron’s move to Charlotte FC has collapsed, with Dean Smith’s side unable to strike an agreement with Toon officials.
What next for Miguel Almiron and Newcastle United
With the MLS transfer window set to close today (August 14th), there is no chance of Almiron getting another opportunity to return to America.
But with the Premier League transfer window open until August 30th, speculation over the attacker’s future will continue.

Almiron has been linked with a move to Saudi Arabia, which could still mean the Magpies have a chance to move the Paraguayan on.
However, that might not be what they are planning to do.
According to the Athletic, Newcastle United are happy to keep Almiron at St James’ Park for the 2024/25 season.
Different side of the Almiron exit story
Interestingly, the Athletic’s take on the Almiron to Charlotte FC situation is very different.
It had been reported by Fabrizio Romano that the Paraguay international had agreed an initial contract with Charlotte FC, but a fee could not be agreed with Newcastle. It had been claimed that Newcastle wanted around £15million for Almiron.
However, the Athletic’s understanding is a bit different. They have reported that Newcastle did have an agreement with Charlotte FC, but the deal broke down due to Almiron’s wage demands. They were too high, which resulted in Charlotte FC lowering their offer to £7million.
That was not enough for Newcastle to accept, and the deal was called off.
Newcastle now left in a worrying position
With just over a fortnight to go before the summer transfer window closes, Newcastle appear to be happy to keep Almiron at the club.
That is a concern, as it would imply that another winger is not going to arrive at St James’ Park.
That would be a major failure by the recruitment team, as a top level right winger was Newcastle’s number one priority heading into this summer’s transfer window.
As it stands, it looks like a new addition will not arrive, while Newcastle will continue to have Almiron as one of their attacking options. The Athletic state that the Magpies are happy for that to be the case, but it does not really matter either way.
The only way Almiron is going to leave is if there is a buyer that can afford his transfer fee and wages. Newcastle are not just going to give him away – that would be a real blunder due to the club’s PSR situation.
The chance to move back to America would have suited Almiron, given his history over there, but the finances were wrong, and it leaves Newcastle in a worrying situation heading into the last two weeks of the transfer window.
