Newcastle United may suddenly have a chance to sell Miguel Almiron.
The 30-year-old is rumoured to be leaving Newcastle United this summer, with Toon officials eager to freshen up Eddie Howe’s attack and bring in a new right winger.
That has been easier said than done, and Newcastle still have not addressed one of their top transfer priorities with less than three weeks to go before the summer transfer window closes.
However, the Magpies’ plans could be accelerated if Miguel Almiron leaves the club, and that emerged as a very real possibility on Monday evening.
It was reported that MLS side Charlotte FC are in talks with Newcastle over Almiron, as they aim to bring the Paraguay international back to the United States. That is where Newcastle got Miggy from, with the speedster arriving from Atlanta United for a club record fee of £21million.
Five and a half years later, he could return to the MLS.

Why Newcastle are ‘unlikely’ to see Miguel Almiron to Charlotte FC
However, the clock is ticking for Almiron to head back to the MLS. Their summer transfer window is set to close on August 14th, meaning there is not a lot of time for Charlotte to negotiate a deal with Newcastle United for the attacker.
That is a concern, while there is also another issue regarding Almiron. That is according to Paraguayan journalist Roberto Rojas, who has shared why it is unlikely that Almiron will leave Newcastle United.
Having previously stated that he would be surprised to see Almiron leave Newcastle, Rojas wrote on X: “Point stands for the time being. Sources tell me that the interest from Charlotte is genuine and #NUFC is willing to sell Almiron, but asking fee is too much. Unless there is a sudden change within the next 2 days (when the MLS transfer window closes), it’s unlikely he leaves.”
MLS return would have been ideal for Almiron, but the money must be right for Newcastle
Given how well he did in the USA and how beloved he was, a return to the States could have been perfect for Miguel Almiron.
His influence on Tyneside has waned, and that purple patch during the 2022/23 season now feels like a distant memory.
While he is tremendously hard working and fits that tactical profile of what Eddie Howe wants, Almiron simply is not influential enough. That is why Newcastle are looking for an upgrade, while the fact he is still a decent age makes him a good option to sell.
But he needs to be sold for the right price – a price that Newcastle may not get from Charlotte FC, despite talks with the MLS outfit. Having almost sold Almiron for £25million in January, you would imagine that Newcastle will want a similar fee now – or at least the equivalent of what they paid for him in January 2019.
However, that kind of money is not going to come from the MLS. It may come from Saudi Arabia, which could present Newcastle with another avenue to sell the Paraguayan this summer. Although Almiron was not keen on a move to Saudi in January, and it remains to be seen if his stance has changed just a few months later.
There is interest in Almiron from Saudi, with their transfer window open until October 6th.
