Newcastle United striker Callum Wilson is being heavily linked with a move away this month, as the Magpies look to raise funds for new signings.
The Toon number nine emerged as a target for Atletico Madrid on Saturday night, with the La Liga giants rumoured to be interested in signing Callum Wilson on loan.
It has since been claimed that Newcastle are not looking to sell the 31-year-old, while Atletico are focussing their efforts on bringing in former Everton forward Moise Kean.
Now Wilson is attracting interest from another major European club in AC Milan. It has been reported that the Serie A side are interested in completing a permanent deal for Wilson. That would be much more appealing for Newcastle, and would allow them to reinvest and restrengthen their squad this month.
However, an update from transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has poured cold water over talk of Wilson heading to the San Siro.

Callum Wilson not signing for AC Milan this month
According to Fabrizio Romano, AC Milan will not be signing Callum Wilson this month. He believes that they are looking at other positions and are happy with their current forward line.
He wrote on X: “Callum Wilson won’t join AC Milan as their focus is on different positions with Giroud, Okafor and Jović doing very well. Atlético Madrid will go for Moise Kean and not for Callum Wilson.”
Looks like Wilson is staying at Newcastle
Romano does not think AC Milan are trying to sign Wilson, nor does he think Atletico are trying to do a deal for the England international.
If he is correct, it is looking more and more likely that the striker will be staying on Tyneside.
That is certainly a good thing, as it would be a huge risk to sell him and leave Alexander Isak as our only striker. The only way Wilson could go would be if we had a guarantee of a replacement coming in, but that will be extremely difficult.
While getting rid of the former Bournemouth man makes sense in terms of profit and sustainability rules, it just isn’t the right time to let him go. It would be a massive risk, especially given the fact that Isak has had his own injury bother this season.
Instead, Wilson will just be focussing on returning to fitness himself. It is hoped that he will be fit again this month, with Newcastle taking on Fulham on January 27th before heading to Aston Villa on January 30th.
