Journalist Luke Edwards has claimed that Newcastle United have made a final decision on the future of Kieran Trippier and Callum Wilson this month.

The Newcastle duo have both been linked with moves away from the club this month as Bayern Munich look to bring the defender on loan while Atletico Madrid wanted a temporary move for Wilson.

However, Edwards has now claimed on X that Newcastle are not willing to sell either of the two senior players as they look to make a European push in the second half of the season.

Newcastle stand firm on future of Wilson and Trippier

It would have been a huge blow to lose either player who have played such a key role in Newcastle’s success over the last two years, reaching a cup final and the Champions League group stage.

There was a belief yesterday that the club would look to move the two aging players on to raise funds for new players this month as they hope to bring in another midfielder.

However, Edwards is suggesting that the club are being very strong on what they want to do with the pair as Eddie Howe looks to keep this group together at least until the end of the season.

It may be that they are again made available in the summer, especially with Wilson who will only have 12 months left on his contract, but it will be a tough decision regardless.

On X, Edwards said: “#nufc have made the decision that neither Kieran Trippier or Callum Wilson are for sale this month. I don’t think it can be any stronger than that as things stand.”

Newcastle will have to bite the bullet eventually

While it’s going to be painful, Newcastle are eventually going to have to let go of some of the key players who helped to get the club into such a healthy position in the first place.

The likes of Wilson and Trippier are quality players but on the wrong side of 30 and it’s not exactly clear how many years they will have at the very top of their game.

For the club’s long-term future it’s far more beneficial to sell now while you can still get decent fee instead of waiting for them to decline or for their contracts to run out and lose them on a free.

It’s not a decision that is easy to make especially as Trippier is widely regarded as one of the most important signings on Newcastle’s modern history, but it’s something that must be done to progress.
