Newcastle United are set to lose one of their key players in the next six months as efforts to raise funds to avoid financial punishment continues.
It’s well known by now that Newcastle are looking to offload some of their players to free up room in the budget to bring in new faces without losing one of their three stars.
Kieran Trippier is the first name that has been suggested, but a new report from the Daily Mail’s Craig Hope now claims that Callum Wilson will be sold in the summer if not in January.
Newcastle have rejected a bid for Wilson already
It was reported yesterday that Atletico Madrid had made a loan bid for the striker but Newcastle refused to entertain it and will only consider a permanent move for the right fee.
While Wilson has been a brilliant servant to the club and still offers a lot in terms of his goal record, his fitness issues and age mean that if they can get a decent fee for him then it makes sense to move on now.
Wilson also only has another 18 months left on his contract and Newcastle won’t want to see him walk away for free, so a move in the next six months is ideal for the Magpies.
It’s not clear if Atletico Madrid will return with another bid given they have their own financial problems, but Newcastle may be tempted to sell for anything around the £15m-£20m mark.

Newcastle will need to act fast to reinvest
With Trippier, Wilson and Jamaal Lascelles all linked with moves away from the North East, the club won’t have a lot of time to reinvest that money back into the club if any do eventually leave.
It does look like this season is becoming a bit of a write off, particularly if they are willing to get rid of the club’s captain and vice captain, but they also won’t want to see the team dragged into the bottom half of the Premier League.
There are a number of targets who Newcastle are looking at, midfielders especially, but they won’t know how much exactly there is to spend until a sale goes through, and there’s only 11 days left in the window so they must act fast.
