Journalist Fabrizio Romano is now claiming that Newcastle United may not lose one of their key players this month after Atletico Madrid identify an alternative option.

Callum Wilson has been linked with a move to Atletico Madrid after it was revealed they had submitted a loan bid which was rejected by Newcastle.

Romano now reports on X that the Spanish club have decided not to pursue a move for the 31-year-old after identifying Juventus’ Moise Kean as an alternative option this month.

There’s been lots of rumours suggesting that Wilson could be one of the players Newcastle looks to move on as soon as possible to avoid selling one of their star performers in the summer.

Whether it’s this month or in the summer, the England international looks to be on his way out of the club while they can still get a decent fee for him with 18 months left on his contract.

However, it doesn’t look like a move to the former La Liga champions will be working out anytime soon despite yesterday’s links as Diego Simeone’s side are targeting ex-Everton striker Moise Kean instead.

Newcastle were never going to be willing to allow Wilson to leave on loan as that leaves them very short up top without receiving a fee, but they could certainly be tempted by anything upwards of £15m.

Newcastle still open to selling striker

While it wouldn’t be ideal to have just Alexander Isak available as the only striking option, Newcastle would not be able to turn down a decent offer for Wilson either now or in the summer.

It would force their recruitment team into action with not too much time left in the window, but it’s something that may have to be done to avoid breaching any Profit and Sustainability Rules.

Whether or not another team come in for the experienced Premier League goalscorer is not clear just yet but he is certainly one of Newcastle’s more attractive assets who they are willing to sell.

Having signed for the club in 2020 for £20m it would be great business to get a similar fee for the attacker having gotten his best years out of him.
