A key Newcastle United player could still yet be sold this month as a new European club have emerged as a potential destination.

Newcastle have already rejected a loan move for Callum Wilson from Atletico Madrid but they may be tempted to let him go permanently for the right fee.

Journalist Craig Hope today shared in a report that AC Milan are interested in signing the striker and that Wilson himself would be open to a move if Newcastle accepted the offer.

Newcastle considering selling key player in January

Wilson has been huge for Newcastle in some big moments over the last three-and-a-half years and last season recorded his highest ever goal tally in the Premier League with 18.

However, at 31-years-old and with 18 months left on his current contract, the feeling is that the former Bournemouth player could be moved on if Newcastle receive a good enough offer either now or in the summer.

There’s no point waiting around for him to leave on a free and if they can cash in and free up some space in the budget then they could quickly find a replacement before the January window closes in just over a week.

It’s not ideal for Eddie Howe who is a big fan of the 31-year-old and will want to keep him around for the second half of the season, but he understands the long-term plan that Newcastle are working towards and how selling assets is a big part of it.

Wilson is eying up Newcastle exit

It’s fair to say that Wilson has been tempted by the interest shown by Milan who very recently beat Newcastle at St James’ Park for a spot in the Europa League knockout rounds.

It’s understandable that the England international would be keen on the move to Italy especially as it looks like he is going to be sold in the next six months regardless, and AC Milan would be an iconic club to move to.

Wilson may be able to team up with fellow England internationals Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Fikayo Tomori who have been enjoying life in the Serie A this season.

As for Newcastle, they could use the funds from any potential deal towards a summer move for Benjamin Sesko who they are very keen on signing.
