Alexander Isak not listening to ‘senior’ Newcastle United teammates as Liverpool make huge bid

Senior members of the Newcastle United squad have tried to convince Alexander Isak to stay, though those pleas appear not to have worked.

Liverpool have made an official bid for Isak, which was rejected by Newcastle United.

Newcastle value Isak at more than £150million, and Liverpool’s opening offer was reportedly £120million plus add-ons.

There remains a chance the striker stays at St James’ Park, even if it is no longer the best outcome for all parties. Newcastle will not sell Isak without signing a replacement, and they are scrambling in the transfer market.

Several Newcastle players agree with Isak’s doubt about the club’s project, but are still keen for him to stay.

Newcastle United players ask Alexander Isak to stay

According to David Ornstein of The Athletic on social media platform X, senior figures within the Newcastle United squad have pushed Isak to stay for at least one more season.

His report adds that Newcastle have suggested the striker signs a new contract at the club, which would include a release clause that can be activated in the summer of 2026.

Isak, however, still wants to leave Newcastle to sign for Liverpool despite the calls from his teammates.

Word has spread about Newcastle United now

Players have been put off signing for Newcastle this summer, after word has spread about the exact project in place at St James’.

None of this is good for the club. Not only are they struggling to sign players, their leading star wants to leave whatever it takes.

Isak wanted Newcastle to show more ambition, and was frustrated he didn’t get a new contract in 2024.

There are legitimate reasons to want to leave. The timing of it all, however, is awful and Newcastle risk ruining their season if they are forced into selling Isak without a big-name replacement.
