Newcastle United are hoping to sign a right winger before the transfer window closes on August 30th.
The Magpies are currently focussing on bringing in a centre-back, with Marc Guehi now closer to joining Newcastle United.
That will be a landmark deal if Newcastle United can get it over the line, and the hope is that it will be followed by an attacker heading to St James’ Park.
It has been reported that Newcastle are ‘actively looking’ to sign a right winger before the transfer window closes, but it remains to be seen who Paul Mitchell’s primary target is.
However, one target who does not look set to join Eddie Howe’s side is Fiorentina star Nico Gonzalez.

Nico Gonzalez rejects Newcastle United transfer
Earlier this summer, it was reported that Newcastle were interested in signing Nico Gonzalez from Serie A side Fiorentina.
However, Juventus have also been keen on the Copa America winner, and it looks like that is where he will go.
HITC Football insider Graeme Bailey has spoken to Geordie Boot Boys about the Gonzalez situation, explaining that he appears to be on his way to Juventus despite being offered the chance to move to St James’ Park.
“I’m told that he has actually rebuffed an advance from Newcastle,” he said.
“He has got his heart set on Juventus, and I don’t think Juve are a million miles away from that deal. But as we’ve seen with Todibo and Juventus, it’s not done until it’s done.
“Gonzalez is someone who Newcastle like but he prefers Juventus at this moment in time, and talks are progressing.”
Newcastle’s search continues as Mitchell misses out on Gonzalez
It is a shame to see Gonzalez turn down the chance to sign for Newcastle United, as he would have been a wonderful addition to Eddie Howe’s squad. The 26-year-old was exceptional for Fiorentina last season, while Don Hutchison has likened him to Bernardo Silva.
That is high praise for the £30million winger, but it looks like he could be on his way to Juventus instead.
That will force the Magpies to look elsewhere, as they continue their search for a right winger. Paul Mitchell is on the lookout for a player who is an upgrade on Miguel Almiron and Jacob Murphy, while he is also having to operate within a tight budget.
The Toon sporting director has a tough job, but hopefully he is able to add someone to Howe’s squad before the transfer window closes on August 30th.
One alternative to Gonzalez is Noni Madueke, who has been linked with a move from Stamford Bridge to St James’ Park. Eddie Howe is a fan of Madueke, and he scored for Chelsea on Thursday night as they beat Servette 2-0 in a Europa Conference League qualifier.
