Newcastle United have seriously struggled to agree a deal with Crystal Palace for Marc Guehi.
That struggle continues, as there is still no deal in place for Marc Guehi to become a Newcastle United player.
That has resulted in the Magpies looking at alternatives, with Newcastle linked with Edmond Tapsoba and Axel Disasi.
However, Paul Mitchell could finally be in luck, as there is new hope that Newcastle will sign Guehi from Crystal Palace.
It looks set to be a club record deal for the Magpies, with Crystal Palace looking for at least £65million to sell the 24-year-old. Alexander Isak is currently Newcastle’s most expensive signing, costing £63million in 2022.

Crystal Palace make Marc Guehi decision
Crystal Palace have been holding out for as much money as possible, as any club would. However, there has now been a slight shift in their attitude towards selling Guehi.
That is according to Sky Sports, who report that Crystal Palace have privately decided that now is a good time to cash in on Guehi.
The defender has a contract at Selhurst Park until 2026. With two years left to run on his current deal, now is the optimum time to sell.
They would not get anywhere near £60million+ for Guehi next year, when he would be in the final 12 months of his contract. On top of that, his stock is higher than ever after his exploits with England at Euro 2024.
That is why it is a good time for Crystal Palace to sell, even if it means losing two top class centre-backs with Joachim Andersen also on his way out. He is set to sign for Fulham, but the Andersen deal has no impact on Guehi’s future.
Newcastle are closing in on Marc Guehi as Toon defender prepares to leave
It could be a case of one in and one out at Newcastle United.
The Guehi deal suddenly feels more likely than ever, and he will be a statement signing during what has been a frustrating summer transfer window.
But as one defender appears to be closing in on a move to the North East, another looks set to depart.
According to the Athletic, Kieran Trippier now wants to leave Newcastle United this summer.
The 33-year-old has been linked with a move away all summer, and it was previously claimed that Trippier will probably leave Newcastle.
Now a departure looks almost certain, with Everton interested. Atalanta and Galatasaray have also been linked with Trippier, as clubs queue up to sign the England international.
It will be sad to see Kieran Trippier go given the impact he has had at Newcastle United, but it seems like a natural time for him to wave goodbye to St James’ Park.
