Newcastle United are now trying to sign a ‘very intelligent’ player who is just like Bernardo Silva

Newcastle United have seen time and time again how good Bernardo Silva is.

Now the Magpies are trying to sign someone who is just like him, as Eddie Howe eyes an attacker to replace Miguel Almiron in the Newcastle United starting XI.

Newcastle have a £100million transfer budget, with most of that sum set to go towards a new winger. Whoever arrives will be tasked with taking Newcastle’s attack to even greater heights, as they prepare to line up alongside Alexander Isak and Anthony Gordon.

Some exciting players have been linked, but it does not appear as if Newcastle have got close to bringing anyone in. Michael Olise went to Bayern Munich, while Geordie Boot Boys have been told that Jarrod Bowen to Newcastle is a non-starter.

New winger target emerges for Newcastle United

Now a new target has emerged, with sporting director Paul Mitchell potentially set to dip into the Italian market.

It has been reported that Newcastle have launched a bid for Nico Gonzalez. The offer was made a few days ago, but is not expected to be enough for the Magpies to strike a deal at this moment in time.

Gonzalez is a right winger who plays for Fiorentina, while he also made five appearances on route to winning the Copa America with Argentina this summer.

The 26-year-old is an extremely talented forward who can play on either flank, while his 16 goals in all competitions last season proves he is much more decisive in the final third than Almiron.

Nico Gonzalez compared to Bernardo Silva

And he is also a player who has been compared to Manchester City superstar Bernardo Silva.

That comparison came from Don Hutchison, who spoke about Gonzalez on TNT Sports after an appearance in the Europa Conference League last season.

“Nicolas Gonzalez is a player that can go on to unbelievably high levels,” he said.

“If Bernardo Silva was ever to knock on Pep Guardiola’s door, and think it is time for me to move on, I think he should be seriously looking at Gonzalez.

“He will be huge, we just looked at some of the numbers there in terms of their goals in the Conference League, they top the possession charts, that’s their style.

“He is very similar to Silva. Silva has more consistency in his game, but when you look at talent.

“He plays off the right-hand side, he is a left-footed player, he is very good in the air.”

Hutchison added: “He is quite light, very skilful, a high-level football IQ, but he is brilliant in the air. He gets in and he scores important goals but he is a very intelligent player.”

Gonzalez could be perfectly suited to Howe’s Newcastle

The fact that Hutchison thinks Gonzalez is good enough to replace Bernardo Silva at Manchester City is extremely encouraging as Newcastle aim to bring the Argentine to St James’ Park.

Howe needs more quality on the right – he needs a more intelligent forward who can be be a difference maker in the final third. Gonzalez is exactly that, while his strength in the air makes him even more appealing.

If Newcastle can sign Gonzalez then they could really take their forward line to the next level. Gordon and Isak are elite players, but there is a missing piece of the jigsaw. Gonzalez could be that missing piece, as we wait to see if Newcastle’s interest develops.

Hopefully Paul Mitchell and Eddie Howe agree that Gonzalez is a player who the club should go all out for, as they prepare to collaborate on Newcastle United’s recruitment.
