Newcastle United will return to Premier League action when they take on Brighton at the weekend.
The Premier League will soon resume and Newcastle United will be raring to get back on the field after play was paused just as things were starting to click.
After a tough start, Eddie Howe’s side put in exciting and dominant performances in their two wins over Union SG and Nottingham Forest and the manager will hope for that to continue.
It won’t be easy, though, as Newcastle get things back going with a trip down to Brighton, who have had the Magpies’ number in recent years and are undefeated in the fixture since May 2023.
Newcastle do have a strong record in post-international break fixtures, though, so it’ll be intriguing to see which way the fixture goes.
Howe still has some injury concerns going into the game, though.

Newcastle to be without three stars for trip to Brighton
If the transfer window struggles and the added burden of the Champions League weren’t enough to make things tough for Howe this season, he’s also had to deal with a spate of costly injuries.
The manager hasn’t had a fully fit squad to choose from once after nine games in the campaign and that won’t change at the weekend.
Yoane Wissa is still yet to kick a ball for the club after injuring his knee in last month’s international break, while full-back duo Tino Livramento and Lewis Hall are sidelined.
Jacob Ramsey has also had his start to life in Newcastle derailed by injury but it’s hoped he could be available again after Howe gave him extra time to recover last time out.
Dan Burn has suffered a broken hand and young midfielder Lewis Miley pulled out of the England U21 squad as a precaution, but both are expected to be available.
Brighton, meanwhile, have six injury doubts as well as three players, including the troublesome Yankuba Minteh, arriving from long international trips before the game.
Here’s how Howe could line up his side.
Predicted Newcastle United starting XI vs Brighton
With Howe’s squad depleted in several areas, he’s unlikely to make many changes to the squad.
Given Brighton’s attacking might on the flanks in Minteh and Kaoru Mitoma, the manager may have wanted pacier full-backs in the side, but has little choice but to keep Kieran Trippier and Burn in the positions.
He could switch to a back-three, but that seems unlikely against a team he will want his side to take the game to.
That doesn’t mean Jacob Murphy won’t come in, though, as the winger could replace Anthony Elanga to provide a bit more defensive solidity on the right flank.
Thankfully, Bruno Guimaraes and Joelinton are actually playing ahead of UK time in this break, as Brazil are in Asia rather than South America. The pair still have long trips back to England, but should be back a day sooner than they usually arrive back from representing their country.
Should they come back unscathed, then the duo are sure to line up alongside Sandro Tonali in midfield. Even if Ramsey is available, he’s unlikely to start after a decent period on the sidelines.
Anthony Gordon will likely keep his place after showing signs of his best form, while Nick Woltemade, despite scoring troubles for Germany, should start ahead of Will Osula after recovering from the flu.
Early predicted Newcastle XI vs Brighton: Pope; Trippier, Thiaw, Botman, Burn; Guimaraes, Tonali, Joelinton; Murphy, Woltemade, Gordon.
