It has been a strange week for Newcastle United in the transfer market.

Indeed, Newcastle are yet to sign anyone with those behind the scenes reportedly frustrated about FFP restrictions and are now starting to see players being linked with exits.

Kieran Trippier was even said to have agreed a move to Bayern Munich, while Callum Wilson is wanted by both Atletico Madrid and AC Milan. Jamaal Lascelles, meanwhile, could reportedly be on his way off to Besiktas.

Then there’s Miguel Almiron.

The forward has been linked with a move to Saudi Arabian side Al-Shabab. Now, more insight has emerged.

Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Mark Douglas of iNews addressed the latest in regards to the forward’s future at St James’ Park.

According to Douglas, sources in Almiron’s native Paraguay suggest the player wants to stay on Tyneside and that there has not currently been an offer for his services.

Miguel Almiron: Newcastle transfer latest

At this stage, why not sell Almiron?

While he was excellent last season, he has struggled this time around and – at 29 years of age – there’s no guarantee he’s ever going to reach that level again.

Almiron’s work ethic cannot be questioned. Still, he’s thought to have frustrated the coaching staff at times with some of his performances, so it’s not as if everything is perfect.

With FFP limiting what the club can do, hard decisions will need to be made. If that means selling players halfway through a difficult season for the greater good, then so be it.

There isn’t a huge amount left to play for this season. Longer term, banking big money for players who may not otherwise have a huge amount of resale value seems much better for the club as a whole.

Almiron has done well to turn his Newcastle career around but that doesn’t mean he shouldn’t be sold should an offer emerge.
