A European club are hoping to sign one of Newcastle United’s key players this season for just a small amount in January.
Although they have little room in the budget for incomings, Newcastle have been the talk of the transfer window when it comes to selling players as Kieran Trippier and Callum Wilson have been linked with moves away.
Club captain Jamaal Lascelles also has a potential suitor in Besiktas who newspaper Sabah claim are looking to bring the defender in for a small amount of money with just six months left on his contract.
Eddie Howe is a big fan of Newcastle captain
While it’s clear that Lascelles won’t be starting for Newcastle any time soon when everyone is fully fit, he’s still proved to be a very valuable member of the first-team squad this season.
When stepping in for Sven Botman who was out for three months with a knee injury, the centre-back held his own in some huge games including the emphatic 4-1 victory over PSG in the Champions League.
Howe has a lot of trust in the 30-year-old and values him very highly because of his leadership and the influence that he still holds on the dressing room.
Of course every player has a price, but it would make little sense to let the defender go for next to nothing without a suitable replacement first, leaving a gaping hole in the squad.
If Howe is confident that he can tie Lascelles down for another year as a backup for Fabian Schar, Botman and whoever else they look to bring in then a move away looks unlikely.

Lascelles could look for long-term security away from Newcastle
One thing Newcastle can’t guarantee Lascelles is that he will still be here in over a years time as they look to continue their progression as a top club in Europe.
One of the key areas they are looking to improve on will be centre-back and that means that Lascelles could be pushed even further down the pecking order or moved on altogether.
If Besiktas were to offer a long-term deal that would secure his future, it’s easy to see why he’d be tempted by the move, especially moving to a club who regularly compete in Europe.
Should a bid be accepted, it would then be whether or not he can commit to going abroad or if he’s settled at the club he’s played for for the last 10 years and would rather look for a domestic move as he’s bound to have other suitors.
