Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak was one of the Magpies’ heroes against Sunderland, but he was massively helped out by his teammate.
The 24-year-old scored twice as Newcastle won the Tyne-Wear derby 3-0, beating rivals Sunderland to advance to the fourth round of the FA Cup.
It was a dominant display by the Magpies, who were comfortable against a Sunderland side that failed to really lay a glove on Eddie Howe’s side.
There were plenty of standout performances in black and white. Alexander Isak took both of his goals well, while Bruno Guimaraes was probably Newcastle’s man of the match.
But Miguel Almiron was also outstanding, and Isak has praised the £21million player for his incredible work off the ball at the Stadium Of Light.
Alexander Isak thrilled with what Miguel Almiron did against Sunderland
After the 3-0 win over Sunderland, Isak spoke to ITV. He praised Almiron for the way he pressed, which allowed him to score Newcastle’s second goal of the afternoon.
“I think he pressed amazingly the whole game,” he said.
“When someone presses like that, it gives energy for the next person. I think we backed each other up very well and we got the reward for it.”

Almiron was amazing for Newcastle during derby win
It was Almiron’s pressing that allowed Newcastle to double their lead. One minute into the second half he won possession in the Sunderland penalty area, before playing it to Isak.
It was an easy chance for the Swede, who stroked the ball into the net in front of the travelling Toon Army to make it 2-0 and settle the nerves ahead of what could have been a difficult second half.
Isak took the plaudits, but the goal was made possible by Almiron.
His work to win possession was fantastic, and it was a feature of his game throughout the Tyne-Wear derby. The amount of tackles he won was incredible, showing the battling qualities that you need in a fixture like this.
It was great to see Almiron do so well, as he has come under a huge amount of scrutiny as of late. But he was brilliant at the Stadium Of Light, and will hopefully have renewed confidence heading into the second half of the season.
