Newcastle United are about to lose Miguel Almiron to Atlanta United.
The 30-year-old looks set for his last hurrah in a black and white shirt on Saturday. Almiron is part of the squad that has travelled to the south coast for Newcastle’s game against Southampton in the Premier League.

Newcastle are looking to avenge their first defeat in 10 games against the Saints who sit rock bottom of the league on just six points. The Magpies loss to Bournemouth came as a huge shock to Newcastle players and fans alike.
Almiron was an unused substitute in the defeat. Although they did not see him on the pitch, Newcastle fans paid tribute to Almiron with a flag display before the game.
MLS side Atlanta has let Newcastle keep Almiron until the end of January as a gesture of goodwill before he returns to his former club.
While a fee has been agreed upon, Almiron’s wage demands are a small stumbling block which is not thought to be a big hindrance on the deal.
With that in mind, a reporter has gone public with how much Newcastle will actually be getting for Almiron once the deal is done.

Almiron’s actual transfer fee amid Newcastle exit
With his permanent transfer nearing its completion, it had been reported that Newcastle will bag around £10m for Almiron.
The fee will be a help when it comes to tackling Newcastle’s ongoing PSR troubles which forced them to sell Elliot Anderson to Nottingham Forest in the summer.
Now, North East correspondent Keith Downie has now stated that Newcastle will actually receive £11m including add-ons for Almiron when the deal goes through. It is claimed that the flat fee will be £8m.
It is unknown what those add-ons could be, but they may be performance-based clauses like if Atlanta wins the MLS title or if he scores a certain number of goals in a season.
The Paraguayan will leave after six years at the club. Almiron was originally convinced by Diego Gavilan, a former Newcastle man to join the club back in 2019.
Almiron’s Newcastle career retrospective
Almiron joined Newcastle for a then-club record fee of £21m in 2019. He joined while Rafael Benitez was in charge but failed to find the net while managed by him.
His first goal would come in a 1-0 win against Crystal Palace in December 2019. He would find his best form at the club during the 2022/23 season where he scored 11 goals and picked up a player of the month award for his form in October 2022.
Almiron scored Newcastle’s first Champions League goal for 20 years in the Magpies’ historic win against PSG at St James’ Park.
In his six years at the club, Almiron scored 30 goals and bagged 12 assists.
