Miguel Almiron’s departure from Newcastle United will be confirmed imminently.
The Paraguayan has been a fantastic servant to the club, making 222 appearances over six years. But it now looks like his time at Newcastle is finally coming to an end.
Newcastle boss Eddie Howe said Almiron was acting normal in training despite the move lingering over his head. The deal is set to be complete at the end of the transfer window – Atlanta are not yet in pre-season so Newcastle can keep ahold of Almiron until the January deadline.
Almiron has struggled for game time while Newcastle have enjoyed a fantastic spell of form this season, only making seven appearances in the Premier League with most of them coming from the bench.
His poor form last season will not have helped him, however. The 30-year-old only managed six goal contributions in 33 league games last season.
This campaign, Jacob Murphy has taken his place in Howe’s starting XI having impressed throughout the season.
While it was believed Newcastle would pick up £10m for the deal, it has since been confirmed that Atlanta will buy Almiron for £11m including add-ons (£8m + £3m) – a huge help for their PSR struggles.
With the news on his true transfer fee new revealed, Newcastle fans have taken to social media to react.

Newcastle fans react to Almiron’s transfer fee
Newcastle have focussed on sales in the January transfer window – that gamble looks like it will soon pay off with Almiron going for more than some may have expected.
Newcastle fans have taken to X to react to the news.
“Signed for £20M and sold for £11M, that’s good business for deadwood.” one fan wrote. While another added: “Paul Mitchell is him.”
This fan reflected on his long-term efforts at the club: “Overall his time at the club has been good, if the fee is to be believed he cost £9m net which is nothing for what he contributed over a 5 year period. Always gave his all when played and scored goals.” they said.
Another fan added: “Good to hear, but let’s not forget the lad gave his all each week for the team, and he always had a smile on his face. Good luck to him at his new club. If it’s true, it’s £10m which is the equivalent of £40m in amortisation, which hopefully will help the club.”
“Now, to get a replacement! No excuses!” wrote one fan.
Finally, this fan wrote: “Never been so excited to see a player sold. Not great really.”
Newcastle must invest the Almiron money
In a modern transfer market. The fee Newcastle are receiving for Almiron is not a huge fee, but it could be enough to fund another transfer before the January deadline.
Howe wants Paul Mitchell to sign a winger but has been unable to spend due to the ongoing pressures of PSR. There have been wingers linked to Newcastle in January but they have always looked to be out of their budget.
Brentford winger Bryan Mbeumo is a long-term Newcastle target but his £60m transfer fee is believed to be well out of reach.
A cheaper alternative could be James McAtee from Manchester City. Newcastle want McAtee but Man City boss Pep Guardiola is unwilling to let him go.
The 22-year-old recently scored his first Premier League goal against Ipswich Town and bagged a hat-trick against Salford in the FA Cup.
