Newcastle United are facing up to the possibility of even more injury woes after their defeat to Chelsea.

The Magpies were beaten 3-2 by Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Monday night, but Eddie Howe may have lost even more than just the match.

There are also injury fears coming out of the game, with Anthony Gordon being forced off in the first half.

The 23-year-old suffered a knee injury, with Howe admitting that the winger was in a lot of pain after being withdrawn against the Blues.

It is a massive concern given how important Gordon has been this season, and there are now concerns that his season may actually be over.

Fears Anthony Gordon has suffered a serious injury

That is according to the Telegraph, who state that the club’s initial inspection hints that Gordon has suffered a serious injury.

The Telegraph add that it could potentially rule him out for the rest of the season, as he prepares to undergo a scan.

That will be an absolute disaster if it proves to be true, as Gordon has arguably been the Magpies’ best player. He has got 17 goal contributions in all competitions, taking his game to the next level under Howe.

He has developed into someone who the manager can trust, but suddenly Howe might need to find an alternative.

Newcastle’s number 10 appears to be set for a spell on the sidelines, while his England aspirations are also in tatters. It was hoped that Gordon would be included in this week’s upcoming squad, but that now looks to be off the table.

That is devastating for Gordon, who has worked so hard to force his way into Gareth Southgate’s plans.

Latest injury blow for Newcastle United

As for Newcastle, their injury woes continue, just as things were starting to get better. We have seen the likes of Joe Willock, Elliot Anderson and Matt Targett return in recent weeks, but now another Toon player has suffered a setback.

The Magpies are currently without Joelinton and Nick Pope long-term, while Harvey Barnes missed Monday night’s game against Chelsea due to a hamstring problem.

Now Anthony Gordon is the latest casualty, and he could possibly be out for a while.
