Eddie Howe needs players he can rely on at Newcastle United, and Anthony Gordon is becoming just that.

The 23-year-old is enjoying a blistering season in black and white, and is receiving praise from far and wide for his performances. They could, and should, even result in England recognition very soon.

But that does not appear to be Anthony Gordon‘s focus. Instead, he just wants to keep doing well in a Newcastle United shirt and prove to Eddie Howe just how valuable he is.

That has certainly been the case this season, with the winger netting his 10th goal of the campaign during the 3-0 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday.

It is the first time ever he has hit double figures, as he becomes a reliable source of goals for the Magpies.

Gordon wants to keep being a reliable scorer and assister, as he aims to be someone who Howe can always ‘depend on’.

Anthony Gordon sets out Newcastle United aims

Gordon has been speaking to the club’s official website after winning the Player of the Month award for February, and outlined his goals for the rest of the 2023/24 campaign.

“To be honest, I just want to win as many games as possible now,” he said.

“Of course, I want to finish in a European spot and win the FA Cup.

“Individually, I just want to keep working hard, be trustworthy and someone the manager can depend on. Hopefully I can add a few more goals and assists, too.”

Eddie Howe absolutely can rely on Anthony Gordon

Gordon already is so trustworthy. He has proven this season that Howe can always rely on him.

In terms of goals and assists, he is now up there with Newcastle’s most decisive players in the final third. And off the ball, he works incredibly hard for the team.

And the fact he is also always available is a huge positive too. Howe has had to deal with so many injury problems this season, but the only game Gordon has missed was due to suspension.

The amount of growth he has shown this season has been remarkable, especially when you consider how much he struggled after his arrival from Everton. Gordon has quickly gone from a ball of untapped potential to one of Newcastle’s most important players, and that is a testament to his work ethic.

Gordon is such a team player, and it is why Howe can always rely on him.
