Lewis Hall has quickly become one of the first names on Newcastle United’s teamsheet this season.

The 20-year-old had to wait patiently for his opportunity at Newcastle after joining from Chelsea in a deal worth £35m.

Lewis Hall broke into Eddie Howe‘s first-team plans late last season and has carried that momentum into the new campaign.

Alan Shearer was “blown away” by Hall’s performance in the 1-0 win over Arsenal, with the Newcastle legend hailing him as “outstanding” alongside fellow full-back Tino Livramento.

Howe has also been full of praise for Hall, who has reportedly surprised Newcastle staff with his training schedule. The English youngster has been doing double sessions and putting in extra gym work to try and improve himself.

Hall was superb in the back-to-back games against Chelsea and has now caught the eye of Arsenal legend Martin Keown after playing his part in beating the Gunners on Saturday.

Martin Keown praises Lewis Hall vs Arsenal

Hall had one of the toughest jobs in football on Saturday – marking an in-form Bukayo Saka.

However, he did a superb job of shutting down the Arsenal winger and limiting Mikel Arteta’s side to just one shot on target.

Hall praised two teammates for stopping Saka, but he deserves credit for another brilliant performance on the left.

Arsenal legend Keown was speaking on talkSPORT on Tuesday morning [10:43am] and was full of praise for Hall’s attitude.

“He [Hall] did exceptionally well. We all know about his attacking talent now. He has got belief.

“We interviewed him afterwards. Really calm lad, measured, knows where he is making the difference, knows where he needed to work on. I like that.”

Lewis Hall deserves an England call-up

Thankfully it was Thomas Tuchel who became England manager rather than Howe, and the former Chelsea boss is preparing to announce his first Three Lions squad this week.

After an incredible month – and start to the season – at Newcastle, Hall is on the brink of his first senior international call-up.

Hall previously worked under Tuchel and should be reunited with the German coach for November’s international break.

Tino Livramento is another young Newcastle star who is in great form and could return to the England squad after being involved earlier this season.

Anthony Gordon and Nick Pope will also be waiting by the phone for a call from Tuchel.
