Newcastle United’s English players are now going to be hoping to catch the eye of Thomas Tuchel.

That is because the former Chelsea boss has been announced as the new England manager.

It was reported on Tuesday that the FA were holding talks with Thomas Tuchel, and he is now set to be unveiled as Gareth Southgate’s successor.

That is despite the FA being interested in Eddie Howe, but Alan Shearer has revealed that the Newcastle United manager was not approached.

That surprised Shearer, but it will delight Newcastle United fans, who do not need to worry about their manager being lured away by England.

As for Howe’s players, those of an English persuasion have a new international manager to impress.

One of those players is Lewis Hall, who is yet to make his England debut.

The 20-year-old joined Newcastle for £28million over the summer, having spent last season on loan at St James’ Park.

Hall has really kicked on since leaving Chelsea, and is showing signs that he could become a senior England international in the coming years.

That could now be up to Tuchel, who is actually very familiar with Hall and his potential.

Thomas Tuchel hailed Lewis Hall after giving him his debut

That is because Tuchel was the manager who gave Hall his professional debut.

It came in January 2022, when a 17-year-old Lewis Hall started for Chelsea in a 5-1 FA Cup victory over Chesterfield.

It was a real show of faith from Tuchel, who praised the youngster in an interview with the Evening Standard after the game.

“It was his performance in general and his attitude in training,” he said.

“The quality he showed was very calm and very good in our possession games and the little games he trained in.

“We never really trained with the full squad so it was more small-sided games, but he was good.

“I haven’t heard him speak so much in training. But he deserved to play, he is a nice guy and very calm. A huge opportunity at Stamford Bridge. He took his chance and was hugely involved in some of the goals. Happy for him.”

Newcastle United defender will hope for England opportunity under Tuchel

At 17, Tuchel gave Hall a chance. He saw what he was a capable of at such a young age, and trusted him to start – even if it was against a National League side.

Almost three years later and Hall is so much better. He has improved so much since his move to Newcastle United, and is proving why he should be Eddie Howe’s regular left-back. Hall recently played very well against Manchester City, and is well placed to continue getting better.

And with left-back a bit of a problem position for England, perhaps Hall could come into Tuchel’s thinking – especially if Newcastle’s number 20 continues to impress in a black and white shirt.
