The mood around St James’ Park was dampened by a disastrous summer transfer window and it reflected in some poor performances at the start of the season.

But Newcastle have risen to the occasion in the big games this season with great results against Tottenham, Manchester City and Arsenal.

It has taken a while for Eddie Howe to strike the right balance in his Newcastle lineup, but he got it spot on against the Gunners.

He has put his faith in Lewis Hall at left-back this season, and the 20-year-old has been a standout star.

Lewis Hall has been magnificent for Newcastle

Hall signed for Newcastle on loan last season and had to wait patiently for a run in the first team. His move became permanent this summer for £28m.

It has now been revealed that Howe forced Hall out his comfort zone to try and integrate with his teammates more after his tough start on Tyneside.

Howe’s patient approach has worked wonders with Hall now one of the first names on his Newcastle teamsheet.

It has been suggested that Hall is on the brink of an England call-up, while Newcastle teammate Joe Willock said Hall is one of England’s best players.

Hall was fantastic in the double-header against Chelsea and Alan Shearer was blown away by Hall’s performance against Arsenal.

Lewis Hall has shocked Newcastle staff in training

Hall’s rise to stardom this season is not just down to luck or Howe’s management – the 20-year-old has been putting in the work behind the scenes.

According to iNews, Hall has been putting in extra hours and doing “double training sessions” at Newcastle’s training ground in order to improve himself.

They add that he has been adding extra hours to his schedule, has been doing extra video analysis and has been speaking to analysts about what he needs to add to his game.

On top of that, he has been doing extra fitness and strength work in the gym.

The report adds that staff at Newcastle knew they were investing in potential, but hadn’t realised how dedicated Hall would be to getting better.
