Newcastle United can rest easy as one star player is set to stay after ‘happy’ statement

Newcastle United have received a rare piece of good news as one star player has actually said he’s ‘happy’ at the club, though sadly it isn’t Alexander Isak.

There have been few reasons to be cheerful for Newcastle United this summer, with the signing of Anthony Elanga and the debut of Park Seung-soo the only things to raise spirits so far.

Otherwise, it’s been a dreary transfer window in which Newcastle have missed out on several targets and Alexander Isak has made it clear he wants to join Liverpool.

Eddie Howe’s squad has actually got weaker ahead of the Champions League campaign, which is deeply concerning given Newcastle struggled to juggle European football and domestic competition two years ago.

There’s still a month left of the transfer window, but time is running out to get the squad in fighting shape and it certainly won’t be done in time for the opening of the Premier League season.

Newcastle can at least rest assured that Anthony Gordon won’t be going anywhere, as the winger has revealed he is ‘happy’ right where he is.

Anthony Gordon will be staying at Newcastle United

Gordon’s future at St. James’ Park has been in question pretty much ever since he joined, with the lightning-quick winger repeatedly catching the eye of would-be suitors.

The 24-year-old thought he would be sold due to PSR in 2024 and had been linked with Arsenal, Liverpool and Chelsea earlier this summer.

The speculation was tentative, though, and nothing concrete ever came of it, which has been a welcome relief to Gordon, who has no desire to seek a move away.

Speaking with the Chronicle, Gordon shared his stance on his future: “Yeah, as far as I’m concerned, I’m not linked to any clubs and I’m very happy where I am.

“I’m enjoying my football again and I feel refreshed.”

Given Isak’s future remains incredibly uncertain, with Newcastle rejecting a bid from Liverpool for him, it’s a welcome boost for Newcastle to know one of their star players won’t be seeking a move away.

Anthony Gordon is ready to have a much better season

Gordon enjoyed a solid season last term but certainly faded towards the end of it.

The forward scored nine goals and created another seven in 42 games, but the vast majority came in the first half of the campaign, and he didn’t manage to contribute to another goal after his red card against Brighton.

Gordon admits he lacked hunger last season due to fatigue, but has got his appetite back after a long-overdue summer of rest.

“I feel like I’ve got that hunger and that bite back that makes me a good player,” he added. “I didn’t have that last year, and that was because of the drainage of three years of constantly playing games, noise around me.

“I had no rest. No summers. After the 21s Euros, I had four days off in 2023. Last summer, I had just over a week off [after the Euros] plus all the noise.”

Hopefully, Newcastle will soon see him back at his best.
