Fabrizio Romano reveals Alexander Isak’s surprising thoughts on Newcastle United amid Liverpool saga

Alexander Isak wants to leave Newcastle United for Liverpool this summer, though Fabrizio Romano insists he remains respectful of the club.

Isak has asked to leave Newcastle and Liverpool are interested in signing him, although the Premier League champions are yet to make an official offer for his services.

For now, Newcastle remain in limbo. Their star striker did not join the club’s pre-season tour of Asia due to a “minor thigh injury” while Isak has been training at former club Real Sociedad

It’s not a good look, although the full context is yet to emerge. It’s unclear whether Newcastle knew about that before it happened.

Supporters could be forgiven for thinking the manner in which the Isak saga has played out is thoroughly disrespectful.

Still, Romano offered some insight.

Alexander Isak still loves Newcastle United

The transfer insider revealed that Isak is still “very respectful” of Newcastle United as a club and that he still loves them.

Speaking on Men in Blazers, Romano said: “He wants to win the Champions League, he wants to win the Premier League, he wants to win everything.

“He loves Newcastle, of course, he’s very respectful. But at the same time, he believes that it’s time for him to go and get this opportunity for him to go to Liverpool.”

Hollow words as Alexander Isak saga turns ugly

Isak hasn’t been at the Newcastle training ground during the saga, and has now been seen training in Spain in a bid to keep fit, presumably so he can hit the ground running at Liverpool.

There is, however, a chance that Isak could end up staying at Newcastle if they do not find a suitable replacement during what remains of the summer transfer window.

Whether it’s the striker himself pushing for a move or his agents, Isak isn’t treating Newcastle with any kind of respect. To hear he still loves the club is surprising, given all that has gone on.

This has been a mess. Wanting to leave is understandable but to send his Newcastle legacy up in flames while trying to do so is another matter entirely.

Isak may not care about being a Newcastle United legend. Supporters do, however, and it’s hard to see him ever being remembered as one even if he were to stay.
