The Alexander Isak saga has taken another strange twist as the wantaway striker is training with Real Sociedad.

Newcastle United’s summer seems to go from bad to worse with every passing day and the latest indignity surrounding Alexander Isak will be a tough pill to swallow.

Isak has made it clear he wants to leave Newcastle and the Swede has reportedly told teammates he wants a move to Liverpool.

The Premier League champions are said to be preparing a £100m bid for Isak, though Newcastle surely can’t let him go after missing out on Benjamin Sesko to Manchester United.

But Newcastle’s resolve will be tested, especially now it’s been revealed that Isak is training at Real Sociedad’s training ground instead of Darsley Park this week.

Alexander Isak decides to train at Real Sociedad instead of Newcastle

It emerged on Thursday that Isak has been using Real Sociedad’s training ground this past week.

Isak has not travelled to Asia for the pre-season tour, with Newcastle insisting it’s because he has a ‘minor thigh injury’ and Kieran Trippier saying the decision makes sense.

However, instead of undertaking his recovery at Newcastle, Isak has instead utilised the facilities of his former club, Real Sociedad.

Newcastle made Isak their record signing when they bought him for £63m from the La Liga outfit in 2022, after the striker had spent three years in Spain.

Sky Sport’s Keith Downie reports that Isak is using the facilities when they are empty, rather than training with Sociedad’s squad, and is only working with his own personal staff.

It’s claimed that Newcastle are ‘aware’ of Isak’s location.

How much Real Sociedad will get if Newcastle sell Alexander Isak

Sociedad will be watching the Isak saga with a vested interest as they are set to earn a pretty penny should the striker be sold.

In the sale of Isak to Newcastle, Sociedad included a 10 per cent sell-on clause for every pound above £60.5m the Magpies ever sold him for.

As a result, should Newcastle get their desired British transfer record of £150m, then a sizeable £8.95m chunk of it will head straight to San Sebastian.

Additionally, Sky Sports reports, Sociedad will be owed a further 0.5 per cent for every season Isak spent at the club through FIFA’s Solidarity Programme. Isak was at Sociead between 2019 and 2022.
