The noise around Alexander Isak’s future at Newcastle United refuses to go away.
Alexander Isak was handed a rare rest on Sunday afternoon as Newcastle United beat Bromley 3-1 in the FA Cup.
William Osula scored his first goal for the club having replaced Isak at the spearhead of Newcastle’s attack.
But even on a weekend when Isak didn’t play, rumours of him leaving Newcastle continue to make headlines. Arsenal want to sign Isak in 2025 but Newcastle have been fairly relaxed about keeping hold of the Swedish star.
Newcastle have set a £150m asking price for Isak and reports suggest Arsenal cannot afford Isak this summer. The chances of him staying at St James’ Park are growing, and there is a growing confidence behind the scenes.

Newcastle United expect Alexander Isak to sign a new contract
One of the reasons Newcastle have been fairly relaxed is because Isak’s current deal is valid until 2028.
Isak held talks over a new contract this season but negotiations have since been pushed back to the summer.
According to The Chronicle, staff “behind the scenes” at Newcastle expect Isak to commit to a new deal at St James’ Park.
The report adds that Isak is expected to inherit the No.9 shirt from Callum Wilson in a move that would please the player but also make sense from a commercial point of view.
Wilson has been linked with a Newcastle exit, and even if he does not leave in January his contract is set to expire in the summer meaning he may leave as a free agent. That would free up the No.9 shirt for Isak in the summer.
What Alexander Isak wants to sign a new Newcastle contract
As the Premier League’s best striker, it is normal for Isak to have a few demands when it comes to contract negotiations.
Isak is currently earning £120,000 per week at Newcastle, but he understandably wants a pay rise that reflects his importance to the club.
Reports claim Isak wants to be Newcastle’s top earner if he signs a new deal. Bruno Guimaraes currently holds the title of Newcastle’s highest-paid players with wages of £160,000 per week.
But there are also targets Newcastle must hit to get a deal over the line. Isak wants Newcastle to qualify for Europe. As things stand, Newcastle are fifth in the Premier League which should be enough to secure a return to the Champions League come the end of the season.
On top of that, Newcastle are hunting down silverware this season with a two-goal advantage over Arsenal in the Carabao Cup semi-final. Lifting a trophy would surely help to convince Isak to stay put.
