Anthony Gordon looks like he is on the verge of an England callup, and Gary Lineker thinks that is also the case for another Newcastle United player.

The 22-year-old scored the Magpies’ only goal against Manchester United on Saturday night as they won 1-0, leading to calls for the winger to go to Euro 2024 with England.

Given how well Gordon is playing, Gareth Southgate simply cannot ignore him for much longer. He is miles ahead of Marcus Rashford right now, who was appalling at St James’ Park.

Newcastle’s left flank were dominant, with Gordon combining brilliantly with Tino Livramento. The young defender was asked to play out of position, but continues to excel.

The 21-year-old was outstanding once again, just like he was in the Champions League draw with Paris Saint-Germain.

Livramento is enjoying a rich vein of form, and Match Of The Day host Gary Lineker believes it could lead to England boss Gareth Southgate giving him a ring in the very near future.

Gary Lineker expects Tino Livramento to receive England call soon

On Saturday night’s edition of Match Of The Day, Lineker explained why he thinks Livramento could soon be in the England squad.

“I think Livramento might get a call from Gareth Southgate,” he said.

“Because he’s one of those players that could play for a couple of countries.”

Newcastle defender can play for three different countries

Lineker’s logic is sound, as it has already been reported that Livramento is on Scotland’s radar. He is eligible to play for them due to his mother, while he could also represent Portugal due to his father’s side of the family.

But Livramento has already played in the England youth setup and impressed, and looks primed to become a senior international in the future.

Based on his current form, it could happen sooner than anticipated, while his ability to play for other countries could speed up the process even further.

Lineker believes that Gareth Southgate will be giving him a ring about an England callup soon, and when it happens it will be richly deserved.

And while he’s on, he can pass the phone to Anthony Gordon as well!
