Eddie Howe told to go out and bring £50m wonderkid to Newcastle United this summer, he would be an ‘unreal fit’

Newcastle United need ‘more pace’ at the back to move up to the next level.

That is the view of Ben Foster, who has spoken about the type of signings Newcastle United need to make this summer.

It is well documented that Newcastle want a centre-back. They want a right-sided central defender who is strong on the ball and can be Fabian Schar’s long-term replacement.

Options are beginning to emerge, with Newcastle to target Marc Guehi again after failing to sign him in 2024.

He would be an excellent signing, but Foster believes that the Toon recruitment team should take their money elsewhere.

Newcastle United told to sign Dean Huijsen

Speaking on the Football Fill In on Ben Foster’s YouTube channel, the former goalkeeper admitted that the Magpies need to sign someone like Dean Huijsen from Bournemouth this summer.

“A bit more pace,” he said when discussing the type of centre-back Newcastle need.

“They need younger, fresher. Dan Burn will always play a role. Fabian Schar will always play a role for that football club.

“They need real exciting… like Huijsen at Bournemouth would be an unreal fit for Newcastle. That ilk of young, up and coming, energy, can play the ball out from the back.”

Newcastle United not the favourites to sign Dean Huijsen

To the delight of Foster, Huijsen is a target for Newcastle United.

Toon officials have spoken to his representatives about a move to St James’ Park, as Huijsen gets set to leave Bournemouth.

He has a £50million release clause in his contract, and it is destined to be activated this summer.

Newcastle are willing to pay £50million for Huijsen, but they might not get the opportunity.

The Magpies appear to be lagging behind in the race to land the 20-year-old, with Liverpool favourites for Huijsen. Elsewhere, Chelsea want Huijsen too and are prepared to offer him a huge contract.

As it stands, Eddie Howe does not appear to be at the front of the queue for Huijsen. That is a shame, as he is everything that Newcastle United should be looking for as a long-term replacement for Schar.

Huijsen is exceptional on the ball and can play on both sides, while he also has Premier League experience after an outstanding year with Bournemouth.

That is why so many Toon fans, and Foster, would love to see the youngster arrive at St James’ Park.
