Newcastle United are ready to splash the cash when the summer transfer window opens.

It is expected to be a very busy summer for Newcastle United, with Paul Mitchell finally ready to show Toon fans his ability as a recruiter.

While Newcastle do not have a limitless transfer budget, there is certainly a lot more capacity to invest compared to the past couple of transfer windows. The Magpies are in a much healthier PSR position following the sales of Miguel Almiron and Lloyd Kelly.

Newcastle’s priority is to sign a centre-back. It is something they have tried to do in the previous two windows, but failed.

Newcastle United prepared to pay £50million

That will hopefully change this summer, as Newcastle step up their interest in Dean Huijsen.

The Bournemouth defender looks set to leave the Vitality Stadium, with clubs queuing up to activate his £50million release clause.

According to TalkSPORT, that includes Newcastle United. They report that the Magpies are one of multiple Premier League clubs who are prepared to pay the £50million that is required to sign Huijsen.

The other clubs listed are Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur.

Newcastle face fierce competition, but are firmly in the mix. A £50million deal would make him Newcastle’s third most expensive signing ever, behind Alexander Isak (£63million) and Sandro Tonali (£55million).

Newcastle United hold talks with Dean Huijsen

With the summer transfer window looming, clubs like Newcastle are trying to position themselves to land their top targets.

When it comes to Huijsen, the race to sign him is already heating up.

According to the Athletic’s David Ornstein, Newcastle and the other four interested Premier League clubs have all held talks with Huijsen’s representatives this week about a transfer.

This is not the first time that Toon officials have been in contact with the 19-year-old. Geordie Boot Boys were told that Huijsen’s representatives spoke to Newcastle back in February too.

A move away from Bournemouth is certainly on the cards, but the destination remains unclear. There has been a feeling that Huijsen wants to move to Spain, but that might not be possible.

Ornstein has added that a move to a Premier League club is ‘most probable’ at this moment in time.

For Newcastle to be the club that secures his signature, they will absolutely need to qualify for the Champions League. With eight games to go, that remains a strong possibility.
