Newcastle United are making plans for next season, despite still having so much to play for.

Eddie Howe is attempting to guide Newcastle United back into the Champions League, having ended the Magpies’ trophy drought earlier in the campaign.

It has been a special season that could have an incredible ending. And if Newcastle do qualify for the Champions League, their summer transfer plans could go up a level.

Last time they qualified, Newcastle were able to sign Sandro Tonali. He has developed into the Magpies’ most important player, and Toon fans will be hoping for arrivals that are equally as impressive.

What Newcastle United want to sign this summer

As Paul Mitchell gets set to improve Howe’s squad, details have emerged regarding the type of player the Toon sporting director will try to bring to St James’ Park.

According to the Telegraph, Newcastle United have three positions they are going to address this summer as a priority. They are right-sided centre-back, right wing and goalkeeper.

The Telegraph add that the Magpies are also keen to bring in another striker that can compete with Alexander Isak.

Who Newcastle United could sign

With regards to the latter, Newcastle want Liam Delap from Ipswich Town.

He would be an outstanding signing, and is available for £30million following Ipswich’s relegation to the Championship.

However, it remains to be seen if Newcastle will be able to convince him to move to Tyneside. After all, he would not be Newcastle’s first choice striker as long as Alexander Isak remains with the club.

With regards to a centre-back, Newcastle are interested in Marc Guehi after failing to sign him last summer.

Dean Huijsen is also a target, with the 20-year-old boasting a £50million release clause in his Bournemouth contract. However, Newcastle are not favourites to sign Huijsen.

For many supporters, Bryan Mbeumo would be the dream addition on the right of attack. Geordie Boot Boys understand that Newcastle will target Mbeumo, while Johan Bakayoko at PSV Eindhoven is also on Mitchell’s radar.

When it comes to goalkeeping targets, Newcastle United will make a fresh move for James Trafford.
