Eddie Howe says Newcastle ‘very keen’ to keep signing players this summer

After some frustration, Newcastle United appear to be making headway in the summer transfer window.

Harvey Barnes is reportedly close to moving to Newcastle while there has been positive progress made on the pursuit of Southampton defender Tino Livramento.

Eddie Howe had previously admitted to having experienced “difficult days” in the market amid FFP constraints, with only Sandro Tonali officially signed thus far.

Still, it appears like two more recruits could soon join the squad out in the United States ahead of the Premier League Summer Series.

Now, Howe has spoken.

Indeed, Howe has hinted the club remain “very keen” to bring in further faces.

The Magpies boss also insisted the seemingly imminent departure of Allan Saint-Maximin does not massively change the club’s FFP situation.

Speaking out in America (via the Shields Gazette), Howe said: “We’re very keen to bring players in.

“We feel we need to add some freshness to the squad and add more depth.

“[Selling Saint-Maximin] doesn’t change our situation massively but this has enabled us to recruit Sandro [Tonali] and hopefully a couple more players. But who knows.”

Positive to see progress

Finally, the squad looks to be taking shape.

Tonali has now debuted as a Newcastle player while Barnes looks like a ready-made replacement for Saint-Maximin, who hardly covered himself in glory last season.

In Livramento, Howe will soon have valuable back-up for Kieran Trippier, as well as another option to potentially play at left-back.

This summer has not been ideal but it looks like having been a good week for Newcastle.
