Newcastle United pre-season tour 2023: Fixtures, how to watch, tickets and everything you need to know

Newcastle United are jetting off to the United States of America for their pre-season tour in 2023 for the Premier League Summer Series. So, here is everything you need to know about the Toon’s plans.

The Magpies are one of six Premier League teams taking part in its first off-season competition held in America. It will also be a key part of the Toon’s pre-season plans as manager Eddie Howe looks to get Newcastle’s first-team squad ready for the 2023/24 campaign and to play in the Champions League.

Howe led the St James’ Park outfit back into UEFA’s premier club tournament for the first time since 2003/04. He oversaw a fourth-place finish in the Magpies’ first full season with Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund as Newcastle’s majority owners beside the Reuben brothers and Amanda Staveley.

This summer will also see Newcastle’s chief executive officer, Darren Eales, and £21m winger, Miguel Almiron, return to Atlanta. So, here is everything to know about Newcastle’s 2023 pre-season tour…

When does Newcastle United’s pre-season start?

Howe ordered a majority of his Newcastle first-team players to reconvene at Darsley Park on Sunday, July 9 to start their pre-season training in 2023. But a selection of their star players did not return as the Magpies afforded those who were on international duty during June an extended summer break.

As of July 11, Newcastle have announced seven pre-season friendlies for the summer of 2023. Three of their fixtures are a part of their tour of the USA. While the Magpies’ will meet Gateshead, Rangers, Fiorentina and Villarreal in the UK. But the Toon may plan further pre-season matches in due course.

Newcastle will kick off their pre-season fixture list with the short trip to Gateshead before travelling up to Scotland. The game will see Howe’s players meet a number of familiar faces with former Magpies favourite Mike Williamson now the Heed’s head coach and Rob Elliot is also their technical director.

Rangers have invited Newcastle to Ibrox for a testimonial tie in honour of the Gers’ iconic goalkeeper, Allan McGregor. The Scot has left the Premiership giants at the end of his contract following a second spell at the club. The 41-year-old registered almost 500 appearances with Rangers and lifted 13 titles.

The Premier League summer series then awaits Newcastle as the Magpies face domestic rivals Aston Villa, Chelsea and Brighton & Hove Albion during their pre-season tour of the USA. The Toon enjoyed a 1-0 win at home to Chelsea last November before drawing 1-1 in their trip to the capital during May.

Additionally, Newcastle confirmed yet more friendlies on July 7 with the announcement of the debut Sela Cup. The tournament will see the Magpies’ men’s and women’s teams take on European clubs at St James’ Park on consecutive days. OGC Nice will also be playing, alongside Fiorentina and Villarreal.

Newcastle United’s academy pre-season schedule

Additionally, the St James’ Park natives have announced that Newcastle’s academy will enjoy their own pre-season schedule in 2023. Ben Dawson’s junior squad will visit Barrow AFC and feature in a triangular tournament with two 30-minute matches against Spennymoor Town and Hebburn Town.

How to watch Newcastle United’s 2023 pre-season fixtures

Newcastle have confirmed that fans in the UK can watch the Toon’s pre-season friendlies with both Gateshead and Rangers online. National League TV offers an exclusive live stream of Newcastle’s pre-season friendly against Gateshead. Fans can buy a single-game stream pass for the friendly for £9.99.

NUFC TV and Rangers TV will both offer live streams of Newcastle and Rangers’ encounter at Ibrox in McGregor’s testimonial. While fans can watch Newcastle’s pre-season tour of the USA via Sky Sports and NBC Sports. They will broadcast the Magpies’ matches over the Premier League Summer Series.

The Tyneside club are yet to confirm how fans can watch Newcastle’s friendlies at St James’.

Tickets for the Magpies’ summer schedule

Tickets are already on sale for fans wanting to buy admission for Newcastle’s pre-season friendlies in the United States. The Premier League is also running a couple of double-headers. So, fans watching Newcastle’s pre-season friendlies against Aston Villa and Chelsea see two games for the price of one.

Fulham will also face Brentford in the Premier League Summer Series at the home of the NFL team Philadelphia Eagles, Lincoln Financial Field. While Brentford will also meet Brighton & Hove Albion at the home of MLS franchise Atlanta United and NFL club Atlanta Falcons, the Mercedes-Benz Stadium.

Fans can no longer buy tickets for Newcastle’s pre-season friendly against Rangers, though. The Toon announced on June 13 that the club had sold out their full allocation of 8,000 tickets. While all tickets for Newcastle’s pre-season friendly against Gateshead also sold out on the day of its announcement.

Like the Premier League Summer Series, the Sela Cup will also see Newcastle feature in a double and a triple-header. The Toon face Fiorentina in between Nice facing Villarreal and the Magpies’ women’s side playing West Brom. Newcastle also host Villarreal after Nice meet Fiorentina earlier at St James’.
