Newcastle United are close to major injury boost, amid their January transfer window struggles.
The Magpies are yet to sign anyone during the January transfer window, despite Eddie Howe desperately needing another attacker.
Miguel Almiron is about to be sold, while Harvey Barnes is injured. Those factors leave Newcastle United very short of options in the final third.
However, PSR will stop the Magpies from making any major additions. Eddie Howe understands Newcastle’s stance, despite having a desire to strengthen his squad.
But his options could soon be bolstered.
Eddie Howe shares Callum Wilson injury update

Callum Wilson has endured a rotten season due to injury. He was out of action until late November, but was only able to make four substitute appearances. Wilson suffered another injury, which was a crushing blow.
It has left Newcastle short of cover for Alexander Isak, who is playing better than ever.
But it was recently reported that Wilson could be back in early February, and now Eddie Howe has confirmed that to be the case.
“It’s too early for Callum [this weekend],” he told the Chronicle during his pre-match press conference before Southampton.
“Callum’s still on track for returning right at the beginning of February.
“He’s making good progress. We’re trying to do the right things with him to make sure that he is robust enough and has all the work behind him and the load behind him before he starts training with the group.
“But he seems very positive. What a massive player that would be to welcome back.”
Callum Wilson return can ease Newcastle United’s transfer pain
While there will be caution when it comes to Wilson, it will be great to have him back.
Isak has coped without the competition, but having an extra striker of Wilson’s calibre is never a bad thing.
It also makes the Magpies’ transfer issues a bit easier to stomach – providing that Wilson can actually stay fit for a sustained period of time.
The 32-year-old is an extra option in attack. He is an extra game-changer in reserve.
Having him available means Howe can rest Isak. Alternatively, it gives him the option to move Isak out wide or play two strikers. That could be something that Howe looks at amid a shortage of wingers.
While Saturday’s trip to Southampton is too soon, it will not be long until Wilson is available again. Howe says that he will be back at the beginning of next month, with Newcastle facing Fulham on February 1st before that pivotal Carabao Cup semi-final second leg against Arsenal on February 5th.
