Newcastle United striker Callum Wilson has confirmed he has suffered another injury.

The striker has suffered a rotten 2024, with Callum Wilson enduring multiple injury problems that have stopped him from representing Newcastle United.

The start of his 2024/25 season was delayed by a back problem, then he suffered a hamstring issue. He returned for Newcastle’s defeat to West Ham, and subsequently made four substitute appearances for the Magpies.

However, Wilson’s injury woes have struck again. The Daily Mail have reported that the 32-year-old has suffered another hamstring injury which will rule him out for the next two months. Newcastle will not change their January transfer plans and sign a striker, despite Wilson no longer being available.

It is a major blow for everyone associated with Newcastle United, and now the Magpies’ number nine has confirmed that he is set for another spell on the sidelines.

Callum Wilson issues statement on latest injury

Following the Daily Mail’s report, Callum Wilson has taken to his official Instagram account to deliver a message to supporters.

He wrote: “Despite all the hard work I’ve put in pushing to get back to full fitness, I need to take a little step backwards unfortunately, guys.

“Frustrating as it is for everyone out there waiting for my return and to be able to help the team, these shortcomings also upset and frustrate me more than anybody else.

“I will, and I am doing everything in my power to rediscover the best version of myself and finally get off this emotional rollercoaster, which I’m hoping 2025 will bring.

“Appreciate the patience, love and support from all those closest that know how hard I really work and how professional I always am.”

Newcastle United player Joelinton has responded to Callum Wilson’s statement, replying: “We are all with you bro.”

Jacob Murphy and Matt Targett have also replied, with both players posting a heart emoji.

How many games Callum Wilson could miss for Newcastle

Wilson missed Newcastle’s first 14 games in all competitions this season, while his comeback only resulted in four substitute appearances.

Now the forward is set for another spell on the sidelines, with the number of games missed set to drastically increase.

The Daily Mail have reported that Wilson will be unavailable until the middle of February at the earliest, which will result in him missing the busy Christmas period.

In total, Wilson could miss another 11 games, including a Carabao Cup quarter-final against Brentford and the FA Cup third round clash with Bromley. That number could increase depending on how Newcastle do in those games.

It is a massive blow for Newcastle, and a massive blow for Wilson. He will have worked so hard to get back to fitness, only for his body to let him down again.

With his contract due to expire in the summer of 2025, Wilson knew he was fighting for his Newcastle future after returning from injury. However, he is now going to have even fewer opportunities to prove he deserves a new deal.
