It was a fantastic night for Newcastle United as England beat Ireland 5-0 in the Nations League.
In what was Lee Carsley’s final game as interim manager, he picked three Newcastle United stars to start for the Three Lions at Wembley Stadium.
Anthony Gordon made his ninth England cap while teammates Tino Livramento and Lewis Hall were handed their first-ever senior international start.
Newcastle fans were impressed by Hall’s England debut against Greece earlier this week, and he did enough to earn a starting spot in the side.
Livramento was called up late to the England squad after injuries and he took his opportunity with both hands as Newcastle’s full-back duo impressed and kept a clean sheet on their first start.
Not to be outdone, Gordon was also superb and he scored his first England goal in the second half.

Anthony Gordon reflects on first England goal
Gordon battled through an injury against Nottingham Forest to stay in the England camp while so many others dropped out.
His loyalty was rewarded with back-to-back starts against Greece and Ireland and he ended his international break with his first international goal.
After the full-time whistle, Gordon was quick to crack a joke about his first goal.
“It’s about time,” he said. “I’ve had a good few chances for England now and it hasn’t gone in, so it was nice to see the back of the net.
“It’s more so a good feeling because I got to share it with some of the lads I came through with from the U21s to now, so it is better I got to share it with them”.
Anthony Gordon now needs to impress Thomas Tuchel
Eddie Howe was strongly linked with the England job, but Thomas Tuchel has now been appointed as head coach.
The 5-0 win over Ireland was the final game before Tuchel is set to step in at the start of 2025.
While he was still at Everton, Gordon almost signed for Tuchel’s Chelsea side before he then made the move to Newcastle.
After it was pointed out that Carsley has widened the talent pool at England by giving chances to the likes of Hall and Livramento, Gordon was asked if he thinks Tuchel will do the same.

“I think so,” he said. “I think every coach has their preferred players and preferred system and that is why they are the top coaches.”
Given that Gordon impressed Tuchel back in 2022, Newcastle’s star winger will hope that he is one of Tuchel’s preferred players for an England spot.
