Newcastle United fans seriously impressed as ‘composed’ Lewis Hall makes England debut

Newcastle United fans will have been delighted for Lewis Hall on Thursday night.

Indeed, the Newcastle defender – one of Eddie Howe’s standout players this season – was rewarded for his fine form at club level by earning his England debut away at Greece in their 3-0 Nations League victory.

It is quite the turnaround for Hall, who initially struggled to force his way into the first-team at Newcastle due to doubts about the level of his defending.

The 20-year-old, however, put in the hard yards behind the scenes and has now established himself as a key player at St James’ Park.

Having worked under incoming Three Lions boss Thomas Tuchel before too, Hall will certainly not be doing his chances of reaching the 2026 World Cup with England any harm at all.

Luke Shaw and Ben Chilwell, two of England’s most recognisable options at left-back, have struggled with injuries for a while now. Outside of that, there would appear to be little other natural solutions.

Should Hall continue to impress, there appears to be little reason why he can’t feature regularly at international level.

Still, all that is to come and it’s important to focus on the here and now.

With that in mind, here’s a look at how Newcastle fans reacted to Lewis Hall’s England debut…

How Newcastle fans reacted to Lewis Hall’s England debut

Taking to social media platform X (formerly Twitter), sections of the Toon support were talking about their pride in seeing a player who has worked so hard to improve handed a huge reward.

“Very proud of Lewis Hall on his debut for England, didn’t put a foot wrong,” wrote one supporter.

Another added: “Looking quality and composed as always doesn’t look out of place at all. Done a really good job.”

“Solid, he was,” was another view.

“Lewis Hall did really well tonight,” claimed one fan.

“Lewis Hall took it all in his stride great debut”, added yet another proud supporter.

Another predicted: “England’s first choice LB for many years to come!”

Do Newcastle have to pay Chelsea more for Lewis Hall after his England debut?

The good news for Newcastle is that there was seemingly no clause inserted into the deal to bring Hall to the club from Chelsea which would see the Magpies pay any add-ons in the event of his international debut.

Speaking to Geordie Boot Boys earlier this week, TBR Football insider Graeme Bailey confirmed that to be the case.

All in all, it proved a brilliant night for Hall and Newcastle.
