Newcastle United legend Alan Shearer believes Alexander Isak is one of three world-class forwards in the Premier League.
No one knows what it takes to become a world-class striker more than Alan Shearer, who comfortably sits at the very top of Newcastle’s all-time record goalscorers.
Alexander Isak now sits second in the list of Newcastle’s top Premier League goalscorers after scoring twice during Saturday’s 3-1 victory over Southampton.

However, he still sits well behind Shearer’s tally of 148. Hopefully, Isak wants to stay at Newcastle long enough to challenge Shearer’s goal record.
Shearer raved about Isak’s second goal against the Saints and, after the full-time whistle, he made a fairly bold claim about the Newcastle star.

Alan Shearer praises ‘world-class’ Alexander Isak
Isak’s goal streak in the Premier League came to an abrupt end last week during the 4-1 defeat to Bournemouth, but it didn’t take him long to return to the scoresheet.
His two goals at the St Mary’s Stadium means Isak has now scored 19 across all competitions and 17 in the league this season. He is now just two behind Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah in the Golden Boot race.
Speaking on BBC’s Match of the Day, Shearer argued that Isak has now joined Salah and Manchester City’s Erling Haaland in an exclusive “world-class” group.
“I think there’s three world-class forwards in the Premier League now. Haaland being one, Salah being another,” Shearer said.
“I think Isak has played himself into that company now.”
Gary Lineker and Danny Murphy agreed that Isak has “world-class ability” but argued that he must stay consistent for a longer period of time before truly becoming a world-class player.
New Alexander Isak contract looks likely
After praising Isak’s performance, Shearer joked that he could “sign a nine-year deal” and go on to break his scoring records. While a nine-year contract is hopeful, a new deal is certainly on the cards.
Isak’s contract is valid until 2028 but Newcastle understandably want to offer him a new bumper deal that reflects his value to the club.

Securing Champions League qualification is one of Isak’s new contract demands, while another is a pay rise that sees him become the club’s top earner. The good news is that Isak is open to staying and he certainly appears to be enjoying his football under Eddie Howe.
If a new deal is agreed in the summer, Isak is set for a new shirt number that will put a smile on Shearer’s face. Even if he goes on to challenge his scoring records.
