Arsenal fans will be having nightmares about Alexander Isak tonight after his brilliant display at The Emirates.

Say it quietly, but Newcastle United are just 90 minutes of football away from another cup final under Eddie Howe after beating Arsenal 2-0 on Tuesday evening.

The Carabao Cup campaign will resume on February 5th when Newcastle take their two-goal advantage to St James’ Park for the second leg of the semi-final.

Isak scored seven in a row ahead of the Arsenal clash and he extended that streak by finding the roof of the net to give Newcastle a lead in North London.

Anthony Gordon then doubled Newcastle’s lead after following up Alexander Isak’s shot which was parried directly into his path. Advantage Magpies heading into the second leg.

How Arsenal fans reacted to Alexander Isak substitution

Isak was the best player on the pitch against Arsenal, and after picking up a goal and setting up the second, Howe decided to give him a well-deserved break.

Harvey Barnes came on to replace the Swedish forward in the 65th minute, and while the travelling Newcastle fans gave Isak a standing ovation, the home supporters decided to boo.

Via social media, journalist Alessandro Schiavone was shocked that Arsenal fans decided to boo Isak’s substitution despite their club’s ongoing transfer links.

“If Arsenal fans were smart they’d have clapped for Isak and not booed him when he came off…” Schiavone posted.

The Gunners were toothless against an extremely well-organised Newcastle defence and reports suggest they are in the market for a new centre-forward.

Unfortunately, Arsenal want to sign Isak in 2025 but Newcastle have attempted to fend off interest by slapping a £150m price tag on the star striker.

Paul Merson has urged Arsenal to sign Isak and the Newcastle ace showed exactly why he is such hot property with yet another flawless display.

However, Arsenal may have dented their chances of landing Isak by booing him off the pitch at The Emirates. What a shame.

Newcastle plan to re-enter talks with Isak over a new contract, and winning silverware this season would certainly help those negotiations.
