Arsenal could do very little about Newcastle United as they were knocked out of the Carabao Cup.

It was one of the most complete performances from Eddie Howe when the pressure was on. Newcastle United had a two-goal lead going into the game and made sure to use the ferocious crowd to their advantage as they ran out 2-0 winners on the night, 4-0 winners on aggregate.

Howe’s tactical change against Arsenal can be seen as a stroke of genius after Sven Botman was introduced for the injured Joelinton. Lewis Hall played as a central midfielder and left-wing back at times as Howe covered all bases and scenarios.

Newcastle mocked Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta on social media after he blamed the ball for the Gunners’ defeat in the first leg at the Emirates Stadium. Newcastle fans were praised for their chant towards Arteta during Wednesday’s game where they mocked his excuse.

Elsewhere, Newcastle legend Alan Shearer joked with Ian Wright after Alexander Isak caused problems for Arsenal’s centre-backs Gabriel and William Saliba who struggled to contain the Swede all evening.

Shearer also called Newcastle captain Bruno Guimaraes ‘brilliant’ after his stunning performance. With Arsenal now forced to focus on the Premier League, Piers Morgan has launched an incredible rant on social media.

Piers Morgan launches explosive rant as Arsenal lose to Newcastle

Television personality and Arsenal fan Piers Morgan is known to be a big supporter of his club but has struggled to take his club’s elimination from the Carabao Cup well.

After Newcastle posted their hilarious message on X calling the Carabao Cup ball ‘the culprit’, Morgan lashed out at Arteta and their trophy chances this season.

“Arteta deserves this,” Morgan said.

“He needs to stop making ridiculous excuses and accept responsibility for not buying a proper striker. A decision that means we once again won’t win a trophy this season.”

Arsenal wanted to sign Isak in January but were not able to afford the £150m price tag that had been placed on his head. Even though Isak did not score in the game, he showed Arsenal fans exactly what they missed out on in the win.

While Arsenal can still win a trophy this season, they are now out of the FA Cup and Carabao Cup, so they must challenge Liverpool in the Premier League or win the Champions League.

Newcastle must now back up the banter towards Arsenal

After a lot of jokes from Newcastle’s side, they must now go to Wembley and win in the Carabao Cup final to ensure that everything that was said is not in vain.

The Magpies will learn their Carabao Cup final opponents on Thursday night when Liverpool take on Tottenham Hotspur at Anfield. Spurs go into the game with a one-goal lead which could easily be taken away from them.

Newcastle’s trophy history is scarce, but Howe is incredibly eager to end fans’ 70-year wait for a domestic trophy.

Howe should have Joelinton back before the final. The Brazilan is set to miss ‘weeks’ of action following a knee injury – fans spotted Joelinton wearing a classic Newcastle shirt by the dugouts during the win which had Shearer’s name and number on the back.

Newcastle now have a month to prepare for their biggest game of the season in the capital.
