Newcastle United are going to Wembley.

Indeed, Eddie Howe’s side were brilliant against Arsenal in the Carabao Cup semi-final second-leg, proving more than good value for what was eventually a 4-0 victory on aggregate.

Newcastle will now head down to the national stadium in March for a second Carabao Cup final in two years, with either Liverpool or Tottenham set to join them.

The brilliant Newcastle beat Arsenal 2-0 thanks to goals from Jacob Murphy and Anthony Gordon, while Alexander Isak’s performance was fantastic even without a goal.

It was a fantastic night at St James’ Park. Howe’s side were more than good value for their victory, while Newcastle fans even mocked Mikel Arteta to sum up what a comfortable night it was in the end.

One of the particularly interested spectators was Joelinton. The Brazilian missed the game through injury but was in the stadium cheering on his teammates.

What Joelinton was wearing as Newcastle United beat Arsenal in Carabao Cup semi-final

According to Lee Ryder of The Chronicle on social media platform X, Joelinton was seen wearing a 1995-1997 Newcastle shirt with Alan Shearer’s name and iconic number nine on the back.

Joelinton previously occupied that squad number upon his initial arrival from Hoffenheim but ultimately gave it up to Callum Wilson in 2021.

Already a hugely popular figure amongst the club’s support, wearing Shearer’s shirt in support of his teammates is only likely to endear him even further in the hearts of the fanbase.

Interestingly, Shearer named his favourite ever Newcastle shirt – which of course is the one Joelinton happened to be wearing.

Newcastle United find a way to replace Joelinton

If he’s fit by the time the Carabao Cup final rolls around, it would be a major shock not to see Joelinton start.

Still, Howe found a way to replace him. Moving to five at the back, with Lewis Hall sometimes joining the excellent Bruno Guimaraes and Sandro Tonali in midfield worked wonders against Arsenal.

While Joelinton will surely start when fit, it’s promising to see Howe adapt when without one of his key players.
